764272 2009-04-12 09:44:00 Hello I have a problem with my broadband. For the last few days it has been really slow averaging about 50 kbs a second I am use to 200kbs+ on a good connection.

I have had this problem before last time it was interference from the sky decoder which did not have a filter on it now it does. Every phone jack that is being used has a filter on it the only thing that is changed that I can see is that we have just got a fax put in but i try unplugging the fax and nothing changes.

I am on a wireless desktop running Windows Vista home premium 64 Bit with SP1.

My broadband provider is telecom with a standard DLINK router.

764273 2009-04-12 09:49:00 Do you have a spare ethernet cable?

Try using a wired connection to test whether the wireless card is playing up.

Are there other computers in the household?

764274 2009-04-12 09:53:00 I have tried plunging it into to the router and I have the same result there are 2 other pcs on this network a windows XP Desktop and a Windows Vista laptop, They have the same download speed .

Also when I tried the speed tests I have turned them both off and only have one at a time on .

I have checked my bandwidth for the month and I still have over half left so that is not a problem .

764275 2009-04-12 09:56:00 If they are both slow then it is probably just your ISP.

Contact them and see if they can do anything about it.

Try unplugging the modems power for a minute and plugging it back in.

Your wireless network is secure right?

764276 2009-04-12 10:15:00 Yes I am using WPA personal 2 for my security.

Looks like I will have to give telecom a call again.

764279 2009-04-12 14:22:00 do a line condition test which will be in the routers config page, open command (start>run>cmd) type ipconfig, the address in "default gateway" will be the URL for the config page (eg http://)192.168.1.1 or similar and depending if you have changed the modem's admin password (do that after the line condition test) enter admin and the password or if you havent changed the password it will be admin or password. it will be in connection or similar, under "line test", dsl line test, line condition test. etc. post the results. it may tell us if your phone line is at fault between the local exchange and you williamF (115)
764280 2009-04-13 01:30:00 You say 50kb/s, is it the same when you do a speed test.
When I do a speed test it is usually very fast but when I try to download anything else it grinds down to a lot slower speed.
When I ran that past my ISP the first blamed my gear.
Then after the speed test they blamed the site I was downloading from.
The other day it ground down to dialup speed & then went offline completely.
It was an ISP fault but I noticed when it came back on again it was really fast for a couple of days. Makes you wonder what goes on at their end.

764281 2009-04-13 01:47:00 Are you with Slingshot by chance?

You have to ask yourself what changes you made around the time it went slow... if the answer is non, the best thing you can do is unplug everything from your phone line except your modem. Turn your modem off for a couple of minutes and hard-boot your computer.

After switching your modem back on.. if it is still slow ring your ISP. And keep ringing them until it's fixed.
