764202 2009-04-12 07:23:00 What is the maximum amount of RAM that Windows XP will use. convair (13650)
764203 2009-04-12 07:24:00 Standard Windows XP is a 32bit Operating System and therefore cannot typically address more then 3.25GB. stormdragon (6013)
764204 2009-04-12 07:26:00 32bit roughly 3-3.25GB

764205 2009-04-12 07:36:00 I think the 64 bit edition supports up to 16GB of RAM davidmmac (4619)
764206 2009-04-12 07:39:00 Thats interesting, because I had been told that XP can use a maximum of 4gb. Unless I got that confused with Vista convair (13650)
764207 2009-04-12 07:54:00 Thats correct, it can, but based on the 32-bit limitations of the x86 CPU architecture, it shares that 4GB max with other things such as video cards. 3.5GB is the "normal" max it'll see. Basically, just dont count on more than 3GB.

Vista is also the same, you need 64-bit OS's to see more than that :)

Its whether its 32bit or 64bit.

XP 32bit and Vista 32bit will not see the full 4GB.

XP 64bit and Vista 64bit will.

+1 to Chill's post. Many people fall for the 4gb RAM myth

764210 2009-04-12 10:22:00 64-Bit OS's can see 16 exabytes (en.wikipedia.org) of memory... jwil1 (65)
764211 2009-04-12 22:14:00 True 64bit OS's can see that much, however MS limited x64 versions of XP and Vista to 128GB. stormdragon (6013)
