764226 2009-04-12 06:56:00 Hi All.

My computer has just the two fans, PSU & CPU. Both are clean. They are very noisy, how can I quieten them?
I assume that they run at full speed all the time, is it possible to slow them down to make them quieter? PJ

764227 2009-04-12 07:01:00 Have they always been noisy or has it gotten worse?

What's the CPU? There may be an option in the BIOS to reduce the fan speed depending on the load.

764229 2009-04-12 07:12:00 There should be an option in the BIOS called 'Cool and Quiet' IIRC, enabling this will slow down the fan speed and underclock the CPU, when its not at full load.

As for the PSU fan probably not much you can do about it.

Edit: Should be in the BIOS, under the advanced tab, CPU Configuration, Cool n Quiet

Can you explain the edit further, as in where to look? PJ

764231 2009-04-12 07:37:00 See attached picture. Sorry for the low quality pulled it out of the manual. stormdragon (6013)
764232 2009-04-12 07:39:00 bearings in them are shot, or they are being amplified by the case , you can get rubber washers to reduce the noise and vibrations williamF (115)

Bearings typically wear out over time according to PJ the fan have always been load.

764234 2009-04-12 07:46:00 bearings in them are shot, or they are being amplified by the case , you can get rubber washers to reduce the noise and vibrationsMaybe, but in this case I know for a fact they aren't shot. Just naturally noisy. Even then they aren't all that noisy, just the noise is a bit much for his boss (aka Maryann :p)

Can you explain the edit further, as in where to look? PJYou will need to reboot, straight after the 'beep' and before you see the Windows bootup screen, tap the 'Delete' button. The BIOS setup screen should come up. Then go to Advanced (as highlighted in the above pic) and scroll down to CPU Configuration. Press 'Enter' then go to the highlighted text in the picture. Make sure it says enabled. To exit out, press F10. It will ask you if you want to save.

764235 2009-04-12 08:01:00 is it possible to slow them down to make them quieter?I've just been through this with my new PC. There are a number of things you can do.
1/. The bios may have an option called Qfan, at least my Asus M4A78pro board has. Several settings options there and works on the CPU fan and one chassis fan.
2/. There are rubber mounts for the chassis fans available here (www.trademe.co.nz):
Just take care to enlargen the fitting holes if need be so the rubber doesnt break upon fitting.
3/. Larger 120mm fans are significantly quieter than the 80mm ones, though it has to be a balance between efficiency and noise. What I did was got 2 fast 120mm fans for the chassis and run one on the Qfan system and the other by using the method here (www.virtual-hideout.net) .This supplies 7volts to your 12volt fan.
4/. Cut away the chassis grid/grill in favour of a wire grill. This reduces whistle of the air rushing past/through.
5/. If you can get a hold of any of the foam here (www.quietpcusa.com) , please let me know where it can obtained cheaply. Also the rubber hard drive mounts if you can source them.
Finally run a temp sensor prog like Speedfan to monitor temps and keep things cool.

Hope this helps those with ears to hear.
