764026 2009-04-11 10:52:00 yay for the top model. The rest sucks.

Good value though

764027 2009-04-11 21:01:00 Without getting into the Dell debate. Theres no point in the top model with 4GB of RAM over the lower 3GB as its still running a 32bit OS, so won't be able to address it.

Whats it actually going to be used for?

No idea. But I like the 2.4ghz C2D that the top model has...

True...during checkout can you downgrade RAM?

Cause the only difference I see is RAM+GFX card...not much faster either

Nope, you can't have RAM any lower than 3GB. I will be upgrading it to 4GB when I can (and thus will choose a 64 bit OS when purchasing)

This is the config I'm thinking of going for:

-Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor P8600 (2.40GHz/ 1066 FSB/ 3MB Cache)
-Genuine Windows Vista(R) Home Premium SP1 64 bit (English)
-3GB (1X1GB + 1X2GB) DDR2 SDRAM [will later upgrade to 2GB+2GB=4GB]
-320GB SATA Hard Drive
-15.6” 720p WLED (1366x768) Display with TrueLife™ and Built-in 2.0MP Web Cam [I'm a bit concerned about the resolution]
-512MB ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4570
-Slot Load 8X DVD+/-RW Drive with DVD+R double layer write capability
-Intel(R) WiFi Link 5100 (802.11a/g/n) Half Mini-card
-Dell(TM) Wireless 370 Bluetooth Module

Accessories:
-Dell(TM) Bluetooth Travel Mouse
-Belkin DFD Slim Backpack - Pitch Black Soft Grey (up to 15.6")

pctek, the reason I went for a Dell is because Asus (and Toshiba) have very few customisation options, and all models in my budget ($2000) are lacking features I want (eg discrete graphics, screen size, high end CPU etc). I have also found the ASUS models to be quite bland when it comes to styling - and I like what Dell has done with the Studio.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think Dell offers outstanding value for money, while offering custom configurations and high end components.

Thoughts? :)
