| 588346 | 2007-09-05 21:06:00 | I've been given a gift of a digi camera (Canon Powershot S2 IS) from my brother who upgraded to the latest in the range. It comes with the Canon CB-4AHE Ni-MH battery charger, which has a stern warning not to use non-Canon branded batteries as there's a risk of spontaneous combustion, explosion or even The Return of The Mother-in-Law. I'd prefer to use no-name batteries or Energisers. Is the risk real? |

| 588349 | 2007-09-06 01:09:00 | Obviously . . . keep like brands together at all time . . if it takes 4 AAs for a device, make sure they are all the same manufacturer . . and charge then together too as a set . There are some minor differences in batteries from maker to maker and that is usually enough to cause untoward performance if you mix them all up . Other than that . . I don't see any likely problems with NOT using a particular brand by a manufacturer's namesake . I once owned a small cheap-o digital camera that when I put a certain brand of rechargeable batteries . . all charged up . . into it, it kindly asked me to install fresh batteries . So I use that as a basis for my opinion about differences in rechargeables from company name to company name . |

| 588351 | 2007-09-06 05:14:00 | My Daughter has a Canon Powershot S2 IS. We just use Rechargables on a separate charger plus I carry E2 AA Energizer batteries for spare if we are out as they fit my Wife's Kodak Z740 as well. I don't think I have ever used the Canon charger. |
