587967 2007-09-04 22:37:00 A guy below wrote the following, which is interesting to contemplate . Moore would get my vote based on his international successes .

Labour is very aware that the chances of a Clark led Labour party
winning a fourth term is remote .

Is this Moore/Clark slanging match a prelude to Clark being dumped and
what Labour sees as a far more widely acceptable Moore being stood in
her place .

Perhaps this is not a matter of an isolated external attack on Clark,
but a very determined internal action and uprising within the party,
to rid themselves of a leader who is daily becoming more erratic,
embittered, and irrational, in exactly the manner of Muldoon did at
the end of his reign .

Now before you Clark groupies dive in screaming abuse, just think over
this issue a little more carefully, you may come to a conclusion that
surprises you, and who knows, perhaps the far more approachable Moore
just might swing the balance for Labour .

587969 2007-09-04 23:28:00 You'd have to go a long way to find someone more erratic than Mike Moore in his heyday. Remind me - what were his successes? PaulD (232)

Two months, followed by 3 years as Leader of the Opposition until rolled by Clark

WTO head

Even with Moore having the backing of the US it was a compromise split term with Thai Deputy Prime Minister Supachai Panitchpakdi taking over after 3 years.

587974 2007-09-05 08:17:00 PaulD chose a good word for his description of Mike Moore.

"Erratic" is how many who were around during his time in government would describe him - including me.

That's not negating his good points - just that his ability to go off half-cocked on issues not previously discussed with his colleagues made him at times an embarrassment to them.
He became party leader (and hence Prime Minister) after resignations by Lange & Palmer while Labour was effectively in chaos. He wasn't a unanimous choice.

I heard him last week in a political discussion on RNZ National. He came across as a mixture of garrulous, skiting & particularly nasty towards one of the panellists.

Any plot to dump Helen Clark would be doomed to failure if Mike Moore was the suggested replacement.
Too many long memories in the party...

587975 2007-09-05 08:36:00 I didn't choose the word, it was sitting there in the quote netchicken included.
The next word was "embittered", I think Michael "I'm a busy man" Basset has that one reserved.

Moore's verbal stoush on Nat Radio was with Chris Trotter. Both sides seemed to have the gloves off.

587976 2007-09-05 09:41:00 Well, I guess my subconscious memory was showing there, Paul.

I agree with you about Bassett.

As for Chris Trotter v Mike Moore - the old history obviously still lives, in both interviews & the published word e.g Chris Trotter's columns.
