588093 2007-09-05 05:35:00 All the best pctek. Might have to call my sheep-shaggin cousies down that way and tell them to get their puters in your ways (most of my fathers siblings are either in, or within an hour of; Gore).
Business name?

588094 2007-09-05 05:51:00 Good on ya tekkie.

I spent 7 years in my old job working with small business owners and operators and I have a huge respect for what they achieve, or at least try to achieve.

Hope it all goes well.

588096 2007-09-05 05:56:00 pctek could get loo paper preprinted with her business card for the plumber to leave on his rounds :D

Hmmm....my business name being covered with s*** and flushed away.......
Actually he could get loo paper with HIS name on it.....:D

I have magnetic cards, pity they all have the wrong phone number on now.
(My home number)

Moore Computer Services, same as before.

I'll do PC repairs (I might try advertising gaming gear too, I'm getting a load of promotional stuff of the suppliers, might get a few mod bits and pieces in, in a small way. Not looking to flog parts though - too many of those online) - Clive Wilson (Gore) is the main competition, well they aren't really, he does networking stuff, schools and businesses, thats their target. I know - he wanted to interview me. I declined. Nicely.

The other one is round the corner from me and has recently taken over from the previous owner. He wanted to hire me on the spot - he told me he isn't that hot on repairs and I was miles better than him. He said it, not me. :horrified I declined.

Its just moving further afield really, I already do Wyndham, Edendale and surrounds. Just adding Gore and surrounds now, well, the nearby surrounds.
Because Wyndham is too small.

I estimated it by taking the number of households in that direct area (not the whole area), 73% of which own computers according to Statistics NZ, then say 20% of them will come to me and not someone else, once a year each.

On paper it looked OK.

Well I'll never know if I don't try it.

Thanks for the cautionary advice from those who gave it - you know who you are.

Thanks to Winston for being my lawyer again.

mac_h8ter look out for the forthcoming babble in The Ensign. :o

Good luck pctek! After two years plus since you have joined PF1, I now only know the meaning of "Deep South" in your location whereabout. :o

Cheers :)

588098 2007-09-05 06:19:00 Best of luck.

I suggest you swoop now and round up all the business customers.

In my experience they need help more then once a year and will pay whatever it takes as long as its done right.

Though I'm thinking you know more about corperate needs then I do

And when I had my shop I sold about5 PC's that didn't qualify as a gaming machine (by my definition) for every one that did.

588099 2007-09-05 06:35:00 No, but there'll probably be a big demand for QWERRRTY keyboards.

 :D

588101 2007-09-05 07:37:00 Congratulations. You will probably do really well in Gore once you get your name out there.

Are you on the main street?

Er....well.........probably not.
I have done networks, worked at AKldUni in the Cabling/Switches/Routers area.
Worked for F&P as 2nd level support.
But I'm a tech. Its what I like. Messing about with PCs not servers.

However I have done small businesses, before and since I moved.

We'll see what happnes I guess. Rather nerve-racking for now........

Are you on the main street?

13 Main St it will be.
Winston is negotiating terms as we speak....
