587667 2007-09-04 18:38:00 mighty mouse not that great, but still use it
No entry level desk top machine(mac pro mini)
limits on upgrading new imac( they seem to change the amount of user upgrades from generation to generation and even from update to update)

I would agreed with plod on this one.

587668 2007-09-04 18:58:00 Nokia has a huge product range. They can well afford to try a product.

Apple has only one cellphone in their cellphone range.

Oh, and winmacguy, if you read my comment carefully (such as, more than once...), I am not suggesting that Apple is beleaguered. Just that they made a poor design choice with the touchscreen on the iPhone.

The reason why I listed those 3 points was to say that just because so called technology pundits might say that an Apple product is poorly designed or won't sell well doesn't always mean that they are right.

587669 2007-09-04 21:37:00 How to distinguish a real Apple.
Does it use electricity?
If "No" it may well be an Apple.
If "yes", it's a lemon.

I think you've got the wrong person and I'd appreciate it if you do not use my name in your religious rantings.

They generally grow on trees in apple orchards and include the variety Macintosh.

587674 2007-09-05 02:26:00 Actually, a lot of the technology pundits are expecting the iPhone to lose popularity for just this reason - there are no buttons and therefore no tactile feedback to the user.

According to this article your technology pundits would be wrong.

iPhone Leads Market with 1.8%. 1 in 4 Switch to AT&T
Despite the $500-$600 price, Shoppers flocked to Apple and AT&T stores to get one. The iPhone was the top selling smart phone for July capturing 1.8% of the market. According to iSuppli "the two models of the iPhone now on the market outsold all smart phones in July, including the Blackberry series, the entire Palm portfolio, and any individual Motorola, Nokia, Samsung or other smart phone model from a branded service provider. The iPhone’s U.S. sales in July were equal to those of the most popular feature phone, LG’s Chocolate".

Sigh.

winmacguy, read the following and apply the basic English comprehension skills you learned at school:

"...are expecting the iPhone to lose popularity for just this reason..."

My statement is not that the iPhone is not popular at the moment. My statement is that the iPhone will lose popularity.

Note that the use of the phrase "..to lose.." is not past tense.

Your cut and paste is about something that has already happened. My post was a prediction.

I think you will find that Apple will update models and improve or add features before anything like that has a chance to happen. As of about 6am NZ time they announced that the 8GB iPhone has a price drop of $200 US in time for the Christmas shopping season and the 4GB iPhone has been discontinued www.apple.com Also with hackers and software developers lining up to develop 3rd party apps for the iPhone, I don't see it loosing any popularity stakes in the near future.
