763876 2009-04-11 09:14:00 RegCure deserves a mention. Good,easy GUI and quick.
Also features Backup and Startup Manager.
I also use Ccleaner & Ashampoo Optimiser for cleanup.

Start where the problem is , monitoring software installs so you can do a proper removal and you won't get the registry filling up with junk.

average user does not need registry "cleaners"

mind you CCleaner is ok..

When fixing computers the first thing after checking Anti-Virus and Anti-Spyware is to run a Registry Cleaner. It is amazing just how fast this speeds the computer up. Most non-geeks don't know what a Registry is, let alone a Registry Cleaner, nor do they care!! So over a period of time the Registry gets laden with more and more crap and the computer slows to a crawl. Clean it out and check the results.

There is a correct method of using them however and most people who have had problems are not doing the following.

1. First BackUp your Registry!!

2. Use the Registry Cleaner occasionally only. Do not use every day. Once a week even once a month is enough.

3. Use a good Registry Cleaner that gives you options on what to delete. Check each entry.

Follow the above advice and no problems can occur. After all, you have the BackUp!!

At this point, would like to recommend ADVANCED SYSTEM CARE (download.cnet.com). This has a mild Registry Cleaner built in. The free version still has some useful functions.

I would also disagree with this. run a reg error prog and
I'll bet 9 times out of ten it will find something to fix.
But only use a recommended & trusted prog.
Ccleaner is a general cleaner, not a dedicated reg fix prog.

763881 2009-04-11 12:50:00 CCleaner, it does whats necessary and doesn't screw things up. That's all anyone really needs. beeswax34 (63)

This one is a perennial, probably needs to be a "faq" for it. Is there one? :2cents:

763883 2009-04-11 13:53:00 I use about 3 registry cleaners (Eusings, Clean My Registry, Free Registry Repair) then Ccleaner and FCleaner. Bit odd that one reg cleaner cleans out fragments, that were not cleaned out from another another reg cleaner... kahawai chaser (3545)
