| 588497 | 2007-09-07 16:00:00 | A copy and paste of an article that YOU found fun and interesting . Does this mean *I* found the article interesting? As I do not live in the USA I am sorry I have not learned the USA vernacular . I ask now what would you make of "Caravan Park . " A caravan in NZ can be mobile or fixed . A Caravan in the middle east used to comprise a number of camels . What would you think about Roger Miller singing, "trailer for sale or rent, rooms to let, 50 cents . " Have you yet checked out what a Taniwha is? Hoping to help you in your research . Yes . . . I found it funny . . . . and since we both speak the Royal English (although some speak it more royally than others) I figgered you'd like it too . . . sorry for the tail-yank there . At any rate . . I posted it as humorous and had a little editorial fun with it myself . . . so there! (I added the "screen door factory part) . As to the "caravan" thing . First . . during the Great Depression there were people who lost homes, land, families and their heritage to the crash . . and Miller's song was a retread of an older Depression-Era song that had pretty much the same lyrics . The "Trailers" part were actually just that . . trailers . They were gathered up by enterprising persons and dragged to vacant lots and squatted there to be rented out to people who had small change to pay for the time they spent in them . These units were towable as they had hitches and lights on them . . at least some of them had lights . . . and the fact that they were mobile, meant that city councils and boards of health could not enforce housing laws and regulations on them . There are still some of these icons left in remote areas of the US Outback as reminders of those days . . even though most survivors would like to forget it all . Some were converted into motels and roadhouses with booze, broads and bikers nowadays . (See the movie: "Roadhouse" ( . imdb . com/title/tt0098206/" target="_blank">www . imdb . com) ) Again I say: Trailers are trailer-able: Mobil Homes are not, but WERE at one time in the delivery portion . Caravans are either lines of vehicles traveling together to a common destination on a road or highway or can be a line of drought animals (camels, horses, mules, etc) carrying or pulling drayage . Now on to Taniwha: Taniwha (pronounced "TUHN-i-fuh") are important icons for the Maori people of Aotearoa (New Zealand) . For many, Taniwha are a mythical water creature from Maori legend, a guardian of the deep whose role is protector . For others, Taniwha take on a more spiritual role because they represent the links between the cosmological world of the gods and present generations, reinforcing tribal identity and continuity between generations . I've got Google and I know how to use it . |

As Christiane Amanpour might say, who amongst us can truthfully say that he thinks that ours is the superior culture because we don't sacrifice goats to enhance jet aircraft performance? |
