764843 2009-04-14 02:25:00 I have two PCs connected thru a Cable/DSL Router and want to use the one
printer for both. Without getting too technical can someone advise the best way for me to tackle the problem please?.

764844 2009-04-14 02:30:00 You can either connect it to one of the PCs and share it, or if it has a network card, connect it to your router, give it an IP address so you can print to via TCP/IP.

764845 2009-04-14 02:51:00 Share the printer on whatever PC (if its XP, go to printers, right mouse / properties / sharing tab, share it).

On the other PC go to printers / add a printer. Click next / a network printer / connect to the printer. Type in the name (press windows key + pause / computer name), put in the computer name, and the name of the shared printer on the right).

So, it looks like \\computernameofpcsharingprinter\name of printer

Also make sure both have the same workgroup name

And they must be on the same workgroup.

Keep in mind that this setup means the PC with the printer connected will have to be on for other PCs to print to the printer

764849 2009-04-14 03:53:00 Right Click My Computer and select properties, should say computer name there.

You can also set the workgroup/domain from there.
