590709 2007-09-13 04:06:00 Hi

The notebook which is running Vista detects my wireless modem however it syas connected with limited access

So the connection is establish but I still cant surf the net

Why is that?

590710 2007-09-13 04:32:00 It sounds like it is not getting an IP address from your DHCP server (If you have one - Usually your broadband router will do this)
You could try setting a manual IP address, Gateway and DNS

590711 2007-09-13 04:49:00 Try repairing or diagnosing it. Vista is pretty good in telling you where the issue stems from. beeswax34 (63)
590712 2007-09-13 05:45:00 it would be much better if u uninstall ur modem, reinstall it. then try to conect. Master of Criminals (10742)

Done that .Looks fine now but the internet seems really slow with wireless.

I connected using a cable now and its alot faster than the wireless.

The modem is only 1m away.

Any ideas why?

590714 2007-09-13 10:38:00 Wait, your original issue was that you couldn't access the net but using Ethernet you can and now you have concerns over your speed, is that right?

Have you tried pinging your router and seeing what sort of response times you get?

590715 2007-09-13 11:46:00 I have another question

My modem does not have any restricted access on any computer that tries to attempt to my modem by using wireless. It is not encrypted

Why is it that I must add the mac key in the modem settings in order for the computer to connect

Does that sound right?

How do you ping the router?
Ninjabear (2948)
590717 2007-09-13 21:30:00 To ping the router:

Start
Run
type: command

in the dos window type: ping 192.168.0.1 (unless you set it up with an alternative address. If so use that one)

It will ping the router 4 times and give you the times

type: exit (to close window)

Whenever my Netgear router disconnects the modem it takes ages to reconnect and shows the message you are receiving (limited connectivity). I can see the other computers but not the Internet. When it is taking ages to connect I find if I turn the router off for half an hour then restart it that it will connect.

If you have MAC address filtering enabled in the router and the router is only allowed to give access to computers whose MAC addresses have been added to the safe list, then you MUST add in your MAC address.

You can get it by going to Run -> cmd -> ipconfig /all
