| 590634 | 2007-09-13 00:08:00 | I have been getting DVD's on hire from a certain company and some of them won't play on my DVD. The company said that I should get in touch with the manufacturer which I did and was informed that certain DVD's wont play because they have been illegally made. So back to the DVD hirer who said they get their DVD's from a reputable supplier. Tried to play them on Windows Media Player and up came a message to say they would not play because of copyright infringements. Terminated my account with hirer company as don't want to be party to any illegal operations. Anybody else experienced this ? | heaton (3697) | ||
| 590635 | 2007-09-13 00:13:00 | Well, WMP isnt the best program to play DVD's on. Just because it brings up all these messages, it doesnt mean the DVD's arent legit. |

| 590636 | 2007-09-13 00:18:00 | That was a lot of help speedy. Put on K-lite codex (www.free-codecs.com) and VLC player (www.videolan.org). Hopefully that will solve some of those issues. Could be worth looking for a firmware update for the DVD drive, too. It's most likely WMP's issues...they shouldn't be pirated DVDs. Thats always the manufacturers stock answer. It's never their product which is at fault. In this case it probably isn't, lol, but I'd be very surprised if it was the DVDs. Give those suggestions a go and post back. | wratterus (105) | ||

If not is the hire company sending you region 4 or another region. |

It's a Phillips DVDR560H DVD and no problem with most DVD's. I guess I have struck half a dozen or so out of about twenty where they won't play and the info that they were contravening the copyright process came from the head technician at Phillips. So I am afraid all your answers are not much help. Just wanted to know if anybody else has experienced the same thing. Thanks anyway. |

| 590642 | 2007-09-13 06:32:00 | I'm with Speedy. I wouldn't trust WMP to accurately determine genuine DVDs. I think your just being OTT on it all. |
