590593 2007-09-12 20:41:00 Has anyone tried this program?

www.pcworld.com

I ran it but I see a lot of .dat duplicates and a lot of MS Temp files too. Are they safe to remove or should I just leave the latest version.

I notice the size, date and such is the same on a lot of them but the file name differs by just one digit or so...is that safe to remove either one?

590594 2007-09-12 21:49:00 Not yet, but I've just downloaded it and will try it out tonight... I'm more interested in the filess I have deliberately created and accidentally (or otherwise) duplicated than the system generated ones. Ccleaner will deal to those... johcar (6283)
590595 2007-09-12 23:00:00 EASY DUPLICATE FINDER ?
Well that's the program I use and as I got it from PCWorld fairly recently I presume it is the one in question.
Yes it's fantastic. I have been thinking for a while of installing this type of program (I had one in the days of DOS).
It does find all sorts of duplicates but obviously to use it to delete WINDOWS files would be very risky.

I limit myself to only using it for my own files - and it found hundreds. As I am using one of the smallest hard drives in existence it was very welcome.
A friend tried it but didn't like it. He has many clients under different folders using the same program. So lots of duplicates. But to be honest he hasn't realised that the program can be used to select just the directories you want.
The learning curve is fairly easy - I thoroughly recommend you use it. Reminds me it is time I had another sort out.

590596 2007-09-13 04:43:00 I use the portable version of Easy Duplicate Finder (to use on my flash drive), and find it really good. :) pcuser42 (130)
590597 2007-09-13 04:51:00 Have you got a link to the portable version pcuserwinxp? johcar (6283)
590598 2007-09-13 10:16:00 'S OK - found the portable one (www.easyduplicatefinder.com)...

Used the standard one on the laptop tonight - a bit tedious selecting for deletion, but effective.

590599 2007-09-13 17:27:00 I opened up over 7 gig on my rootdrive and it's safe to say I am still running OK.

I took out a lot of things that had the same size and date on them as they looked like duplicates and so far all is OK.

I think running CCleaner is a good thing afterwards..maybe redundant...but I did it anyway.
