590046 2007-09-11 01:28:00 outside my house (on council property) there is a boat. it has been left out there for over two years now with a wheel lock on the tyre. i have left notices on the boat asking for the owner to contact me but no answer and I have asked the neighbours but nobody knows who owns it. it has never moved in all this time.

I was under the impression there is a law whereby you can advertise in the paper and if it is not claimed you can legally claim it ? Anybody heard about this type of deal ?

590047 2007-09-11 01:34:00 If it is at the side of the road, then the boat trailer must be both registered and warranted. Otherwise it is in breach of the law.

Be careful trying to claim ownership, it could come with a very large accrued fine?

590048 2007-09-11 01:37:00 If it's on council property have you tried ringing the council to complain about it? bonzo29 (2348)
590049 2007-09-11 02:53:00 I dont want to compain about it I was hoping there was some loophole that would allow me to claim it as mine ?

PS. The trailer is not rego or warranted there is not even a licence plate on it but it is out of the way where it is highly unlikely it would ever get checked.

590050 2007-09-11 02:55:00 I'd be very careful about those kind of things. They tend to come back and bite you in the butt. wratterus (105)
590051 2007-09-11 03:42:00 Whoa, don't claim it for yourself, Too easily tracked, SELL IT TO SOMEONE ELSE and pocket the money. Metla (12)

590054 2007-09-11 04:05:00 No rego or warrant and on Council land. Its an abandoned 'vehicle' and Council has the authority to remove it. As its abandoned on Council land, they can then put it out to tender to recoup costs.

Can you claim it? Not legally, no. But if the boat were to magically disappear off the trailer and changed its colour, who would ever know....

Failing that, burn it, if it does have an owner im sure they will notice then. :badpc:

590055 2007-09-11 05:19:00 Well I know if you find an item, like a cellphone or something and hand it in to the Police, they keep it for 3 months and if no one claims it then you can have it. CYaBro (73)
