589351 2007-09-09 02:00:00 Completely meaninless list . Just someone's opinion .

I'rd be more interested if you made up the list yourself .

589352 2007-09-09 03:41:00 The suspension problem with the Lotus Elite (www.time.com) is from my memory somewhat exaggerated.

It was one of the very few lower cost sports cars in the late 50s that offered some competition to a standard Vincent Rapide twin, but not much at all to a moderately tuned Black Shadow.

OK . . .

Fiats . . any and all of them . . all French cars basically with very few exceptions!

Peugeot gasoline powered vehicles . . diesel's are OK .

Others:

Hillman, MG, English Ford, Manx, Husky, JAP, Simca, Austin America, Healy, Mercedes Benz . . . (severly over-rated junk and bad alloys, pitiful plastics that crack and drool), Kia, Daewoo, Suzuki, Daihatsu, Autobianchi, Jaguar,

I know I left out a few turkeys . . but my memory's not like it usta be . Did I get to 50 yet?

589354 2007-09-09 04:30:00 Having covered English and Asian I'l add American.
Ford Pinto springs to mind immediately.

Anyway I like English cars. Yes Lucas had a reputation, so what, its easy to fix unlike the modern electronic nightmare.

American cars on the other hand are pretty good at going fast in a straight line and not much else.

589355 2007-09-09 04:38:00 I remember doing things in a Chevette that would make the eyes water... guess where I was in the 70's :D I also remember being told that they weren't safe in an earthquake.

And yes- the guy who invented the Ford Explorer has a hell of a lot to answer for!

Yeah..Pintos and Mustangs were all the same under the hood..and Ford Explorers are found some mornings rolled over on their sides just parked in driveways.

I actually don't like Ford products much at all..after 47 years of wrenching on them they at least made a lot of money for me..but look to see if Ford doesn't die in the next year or so..they are busted right now and can't get parts for warranties to their customers.

589357 2007-09-09 05:19:00 My Little Austin Seven (local.aaca.org), brought motoring to the 'masses' in England, as sung by Clarkson Rose in 1932, a song by Norman Long. Terry Porritt (14)
