589224 2007-09-08 08:13:00 I need to send a package from the central North Island to the southern South Island. The package is less than 5 kg.
I want to know who would be the cheapest, how good are they - i.e. do they have a bad damage record, and approximately what would it cost?

I'm not sure if this is in the correct forum, if not, can it be moved?

589226 2007-09-08 09:08:00 Courier Post is always good, DHL, FedEx. Give THEM a call and ask them directly, those website cost meters are so untrustworthy sometimes. beeswax34 (63)
589227 2007-09-08 09:14:00 If the item is worth less than $250, and you don't mind waiting two days for it to arrive, you could use ParcelPost at any post shop, which would be $7.95 (or possibly $12.95) if I remember correctly. Just take the item to a post shop.

Otherwise, I recommend CourierPost, because you don't need an account or anything and it's an easy trip to your local post shop. It will cost $27.

589228 2007-09-08 09:15:00 Is it an expensive item? Otherwise I've found "Parcelpost" by NZPost fairly good (and cheap). somebody (208)
589229 2007-09-08 10:12:00 I've sold a lot of stuff on Trade Me over the last year (hoarders busy dehoarding). Being Rural Delivery I use Parcel Post out through our letterbox - our mailman picks it up. If I need to buy the stickers it goes out through our local store/post office.

Have only lost one small parcel - I should have put it in a bigger box. As it was only $5 worth with a $3.50 sticker I just refunded the money to the buyer and moved on.

Other than that - no problems. I always assume that my parcel will end up in the bottom of the truck with other stuff on top and package accordingly. If it is fragile I write fragile on all sides. China has made it intact.

Some couriers charge extra to go to Rural Delivery so Parcel Post is better for me for inwards stuff anyway as the price is standard to all addresses.

589230 2007-09-08 11:30:00 Thank you for all the replys. It looks like I will be checking out parcelpost on Monday lysdexic (12796)
589231 2007-09-08 20:48:00 Parcel Post takes 2 to 3 days, has no signature required and a maximum claim value of $250 or less.

CourierPost is fast and has a claim value of $1500 but may be a bit expensive for bigger items.

Post Haste is the cheapest for larger items and has a maximu claim value of $1500.
