764951 2009-04-14 09:26:00 What kind of hdd is in it? IDE or SATA??

I would check that the cable and power cable are in properly

I know (if its SATA) and if youre using a molex adapter, theyre pretty crappy the pins in it, can lose contact. No contact, no boot

And whats in it?? Or is this computer, the one in your sig?

IDE hard drive

It's not the pc in my sig, but this:

MSI KM4M-L (www.msicomputer.com)
AMD Athlon 1.8Ghz
1GB Ram (DDR400)
ATI Radeon 9550SE (AGP, but now removed)
Creative sound card (not sure why it's in there, but it is)
Dial up modem
60 GB HDD (Seagate barracuda Model #:ST360015A)
Gigabyte CD-RW
LG DVD-ROM

764956 2009-04-14 09:57:00 Where in NZ are you David? (thats if youre in NZ).

It doesnt say it supports DDR 400 on the site. If its got a speaker in it, does it beep?

764957 2009-04-14 10:10:00 One other way to test if it a possible board failure - remove ALL RAM, fire up the PC, it should beep indicating No RAM. What you can also do is try another PSU - in case for some reason its not giving enough power.

If you want - try removing the Board from the case - on a workbench/ table assemble the Board with the PSU/RAM/CPU & KB/Mouse and monitor attached see if it will bring up the BIOS - just in case something is shorting in the case.

Thats a thought --- look at the front USB ports if it has any, disconnect the header from the board, a few weeks back Had one ( customers) - they were shorting due to breakage, and stopping the PC from booting.

Had one today with the same problem, tried various cards, onboard - nothing -No RAM warning, changed the CMOS Battery, threw on another PSU, assembled on the workbench :(

Removed the CPU/RAM Graphic Card, installed on the bench into a second hand, but working board - fired up nicely into the BIOS.

Conclusion: Original Board = RIP.

Waipa area (rural)

The IT man at the shop in town said that the computer would clock it down to 333mhz. It's been installed for about a year all ok.

It's got a speaker installed, but there's no beep :(

I should probably say at this point that the front USB ports are broken :o.

I might try tacking it all to pieces and assembling it on the table tomorrow if I have time. I've got nothing to lose .

What should the motherboard be laid on on the table (surface)?

Anything but metal, even wood will be alright

764960 2009-04-14 11:01:00 Nothing like wool or carpet either, to avoid static eletricity which will fry the mobo.. Blam (54)
