You can get it by going to Run -> cmd -> ipconfig /all

I dont see mac filtering in my modem settings. Can anyone check?

I see wireless station access list and the turn access control on is always unticked but I had to manually add the mac address for the laptop for it to connect.

Doesn't seem to make much sense to me.If the access control is off surely it should connect straight away

590720 2007-09-14 11:00:00 You don't say what sort of modem you are using or how you configure it.

I have a network of various misc pcs and laptops running OSs of 98 through XP, some wireless, some by cable to the router. And a network printer that runs on the router.

The network is in the 192.168.0.x range. The router is 192.168.0.1 and it assigns IP addresses to the computers and printer automatically.

To configure the router I open IE and type: http://192.168.0.1/
Then login and play. Some of the settings were in the manual, a couple came from my ISP. Works well - until it crashes and takes forever to reconnect.

First I set it up as an open network, got everything working and understood it. Then I encrypted it.

MAC addresses aren't required as access control is not turned on.

Using Netgear DG834G V2

590722 2007-09-14 12:19:00 Mine is Netgear DG834G no version number so must be 1.

First problem.
If it says "limited connectivity" look at the front of the modem. If the internet light (second from left) is flashing orange - it isn't connecting to the internet.

Mine crashes every so often and takes forever to reconnect.

I have been known to fish out my d-link usb modem to see if it is the router or the ISP. Usually it is the router but a few times ihug have been down.

The router has been replaced - twice - but still does it on and off. Must be something here but I can't figure out what. So we live with it.

Just turn it off, pull out the phone cable, leave it for half an hour to cool down then try again.

2nd Problem, Configuration.
When I first installed it months ago the correct screens didn't come up. I rang Netgear and they talked me through it. Now it comes up everytime. (Can't remember what it was doing when I first used it but there was something wrong)

I think the following were the only things I changed (or else they were defaults)

My pages show the following:
Basic Settings:
PPPoA (PPP over ATM)
Login name and password (mine for my account)

ADSL Setting:
VC-Based

Wireless Settings:
My choice of name for network
Region: NZ
Channel: 11
Mode: g & b
Wireless access point: Enabled and allowing broadcast of name

Setup station wireless list
Can see the computers that are on line at the moment but it I haven't turned the access control on

Security options
Disable until you get it working, then enable it once you understand it

LAN IP settings
IP address 192 168 0 1
Subnet 255 255 255 0
RIP direction None
RIP version RIP-1

Use router as DHCP server (checked)
start address 192 168 0 2
end address 192 168 0 254

Open up the program in your browser by typing http://192.168.0.1/
and see if your settings look similar.

590723 2007-09-14 14:32:00 Seriously, if you've had a problem for so long, get a Dynalink or Linksys modem and you'll be sorted. beeswax34 (63)
590724 2007-09-14 23:45:00 I actually bought a dynalink modem a while ago. Not installed yet for a number of reasons - like different hours different people use the net round here and finding the right time to do it. Also it never seems important when the netgear one is working. Mercury (1316)
