589691 2007-09-10 12:58:00 A bit about Sky

many of their channels are transmitted at 544x576 resolution and most average sub 3.5mbits most of the bandwidth is allocated to Sky Sports and Sky movies which can at times be at around 10 mbitts you will see this on live local rugby tests they crank it up to look as good as it can.

AS for extra bandwidth on D1, much of it is used for Australian services as the satellite now supports REUSE of the same freq but using different beams. E.G SBS Australia can use 12486 H even though Freeview is on 12438 H. The transponder sizing is the same as before 54 mhz which sky split into halves of 27 mhz.

In fact before Sky went to D1 they actually started using extra capacity.. where do you think all those extra PPV box office channels came from.

They only said they will take an extra 1 and a half t.p on d1. Pretty much they have room for another dozen channel if that.

Well that's nice for you but most of the rest of the country does not have that luxury and have to put up with what they get feed from the monopoly Sky..

589694 2007-09-10 22:09:00 You could always move to Wgtn or CHCH and get telstra if you want a really good reception. Hitech (9024)
589695 2007-09-10 23:07:00 Let's face it... how many people would seriously move just to get a slightly higher-quality TV signal? I doubt it would be many . Erayd (23)
589696 2007-09-11 00:22:00 Go and see your local mp if you want telstra the more people that lobby for it the more chance telstra has to install there cable in your area.

What telstra have told me is if they get enough people down a street that want there service then telstra will roll out there service going by the amount of demand they receive from the public.
