589132 2007-09-08 00:46:00 I liked the one I heard recently about the guy who had to regularly have a urine check for drugs to earn a living and pay taxes so why don't beneficiaries have a urine check too.
I agree whole drugs including baccy. If they test positive benefit negative.
Same if get caught driving pissed.

589133 2007-09-08 01:11:00 Well I pay my taxes as well. Taxes the government collect go into a budget.
I would like the taxes the Gov't collects off me personally to be allocated the way I want. I think this is what you are saying.

So if you pay $300 in taxes per week. You are suggesting that the Government actually gives you a receipt for the $300 and says we spent $0.50cents of your actual tax this week on whatever.

If you only sit around and pay taxes and do not really do much else I wonder why you pay taxes.

Oh wait. I forgot about GST.

There appears to be no way to allocate the tax you pay to any particular project.

Well we dont have a real choice not to pay taxes do we? I mean some of the penalties are pretty hefty if you dont. But I think we're on the same par when wanting to know where the taxes have gone, but like Metla said the cost for that would be astronomical, but also Im sure a few if not all parties in the beehive would sweat under the collar when it came to justifications of tax money spent. The other point is do we have a right to know as individuals where our taxes go....besides mass electrol advertising, flights around the globe, rugby tickets etc

589134 2007-09-08 01:17:00 You can't attribute your tax to one project, because it all goes into one giant pool and then is spent as money from one giant pool.

The Government doesn't say, "this PC here is getting slow. Let's get some more RAM with this guy's week's taxes!". It buys a new fleet of PCs with the Government's money, which comes from your taxes.

You can, however download the Budget, which will tell you (if you can make sense of it) what they spent their money on. If you really wanted to, you could probably equate the major projects to amounts of your tax, and work out (for example) how much you paid for education.
