| 765263 | 2009-04-15 10:52:00 | My PC is (sometimes) not powering off when I shut it down. It happens about 50% of the time and it has been doing it for the last 4 weeks or so. I have tried shutting down from each of the OS's I have (I have 3) and they all have the same problem. I shut it down in Windows, then it goes through the normal shutdown process. The screen goes blank then the hard disks power down. The LED on the monitor stays orange (standby). The CPU, case (I think) and PSU fans keep spinning though :( I normally power it off by holding the power button and it powers up fine the next time. Windows does not detect an 'improper shutdown'. What gives? |

Could be the OS / Boards telling the Power to shut down and the Power Supply is saying NOPE Do you have a spare , beg ,steal or borrow another power supply and swap it over to test. Edited: Windows does not detect an 'improper shutdown'. It wont, as you mentioned the HDD's have shut down, so it wont detect an improper shutdown. |

(at least it's under warranty for another 4 years) Not sure if i have one to test... will have a look at work for one. I haven't had any other problems with it at all since I built it in April last year - no random power downs, no crashing (well nearly since it's got Vista on it :D) See what it says under power in control panel. It maybe on standby (under advanced if this is XP). Not shut down It sounds like its on standby, and if you press a button, it'll wake the system up Nope, def not on standby :) |

| 765267 | 2009-04-15 11:42:00 | A friend of mine had a PC that would not turn off. I disconnected all PSU cables and plugged it in. The PSU started up all by itself! There were a few bulging capacitors inside the PSU. No idea if they were causing the problem though. |
