| 764835 | 2009-04-14 01:51:00 | Ok so I have E8500 p5q-E 2x2gb 1066 G.Skill DDR2 ram now the prices at the momment are $400 for the cpu around $300 for p5q-E and maby $125 for the ram. Prices have gone up heaps since i bought which was $340, $256 and ram the same. Now i wanted to some time upgrade to i7 stuff. because i7 stuff is all new should I wait till if it drops alot or should i sell my stuff now and buy the i7 stuff? Do you think the i7 stuff will drop in price before the old tech drops more? Cause I would think the old tech would have had all its real price cuts by now. |

I'd build a machine with what you've got now - that is not a bad machine at all; and you have the most expensive parts already anyway :) i7 gear is very very expensive, only because it is the top of the line stuff and they can charge anything for it :p |

But they do support dual channel, so you can get 2 x 2gb RAM, but that kinda defeats the purpose of getting the i7... If you want to be able to upgrade to something faster later, wait for the mainstream version of the i7(i6 or i5 maybe?) which will probably use DDR2 RAM and be cheaper too.. Blam |

If I wait 1-3 I dont want my cpu mobo and ram to lose value. Like atm you will likely to get a good price for them but in a year or 2 there going to loose value, if you know what i mean. So I was thinking wouldnt it be wise to sell the old tech over getting the i7 gear when my stuff still has value to them. Otherwise it'll be like buying two computers (the cpu mobo and ram) from the start and not going to be able to add much cash towards newer stuff. I would like to sell when there is still a demand for it, so I wont loose that much from the originally buying price. Therefor should i wait a bit? Im hoping that the i7 stuff drops abit cause its just new and sell my old stuff straight away so I can get the max money out of the old gear. |

Go with this nice rig already for now, and when you feel the need to upgrade, i7 would already be cheap as chips and you could build a new pc then. Or you sell now..and buy some i7 stuff...but if you don't need it you shouldn't..cause it'll lose value anyways.. Blam |
