589176 2007-09-08 03:54:00 After 15 minutes of use from the notebook the screen would just freeze up and the only way to turn the notebook off is to take the battery off.

I tried formatting but no luck.It would still freeze after 15 mins of use

So my ex gf took the notebook back to noel leeming hoping for a replacement but they will not replace the notebook because the ram has been upgraded from what was 512MB to 2GB.When she bought the laptop she payed about $200 to add an extra 1.5GB of ram.The ram was not fit in by other places other than the shop which we purchased from.

They said that because the ram is added it affects the warranty.

We didn't take the notebook to other places to fit the ram. When she bought it she asked noel leeming to do it.

Should this affect the warranty? They wouldn't even give her money back

589177 2007-09-08 04:01:00 No. If they put the ram in they are responsible for it. End of story. Mention the CGA to them.
:)

589179 2007-09-08 04:08:00 ram is usually a user installable part, so unless YOU cocked that up there shouldn't be any worries. And since you didn't install it, this post has been pointless.'
How old is notebook?

589181 2007-09-08 05:30:00 3 days? You're joking!

They should be falling over themselves to replace it.

The warranty stands if they fitted the extra ram.

In fact it stands even if someone else fitted it (they would have to prove that fitting the ram caused a problem).

Demand to see the manager and tell them very firmly that you either get a replacement laptop or your money back.

589182 2007-09-08 05:30:00 If it is freezing then I would be getting them to remove the extra RAM and try the notebook with just the original 512MB.
If it is still freezing then they should replace the notebook.
If not they should replace the extra RAM.

I wouldn't even go that far CYaBRO.

He's spent at least a G on a Lap top that's days old. If I was given a 'we don't want to know' there would have to be a valid reason or I'd be pretty angry.

Note they cannot get out of the CGA just because:

They already have the money

The item was sold on special

It had extra ram inserted by them... or anyone else

What is happening to service in New Zealand? It's about time these retailers got their act together. Maybe you should have bought one from the Warehouse? :p

Even if you ad added the RAM they have to replace the laptop. Or refund you if it is a major problem.
It could be the new RAM thats faulty.

Either way go back and ask for the manager. Mention the Consumer Guarantees act and the Disputes Tribunal.

Watch them rapidly change their minds.
