| 766566 | 2009-04-20 12:41:00 | Hi, After building a new system for my partner, I have inherited her Acer that has, Intel Pentium 4 516, 2933 MHz mobo SiS 661GX 1024 MB (PC3200 DDR SDRAM 160 GB ram RADEON 9200 PRO (128mb) Socket 775 Yeah I know it's an Acer but apart from the sign on the box you wouldn't know as I have removed all the acer bloat a long time back. My idea is that as the Acer is about 2 years newer and in a lot nicer condition than my machine (cosmetically) that I would swap a lot of the better hardware from my pc to the acer (for my own use) I have checked out the specs of both using Everest and the majority is identical but there are a couple of points I am unsure of. Acer has Socket 775 2933 MHz versus My pc is Socket 478 3000 MH I will be changing, PSU 300 to 450W 1gb Ram to 2 GB Radeon 9250 AGP to a nVIDIA GeForce 7600 GS AGP plus adding my lg dvd writer Both GPUs are AGP and the ram is all DDR PC3200 I would like to know if I am making an improvement or whether it's a waste of time doing this just basically to get a tidier and newer machine? |

You should see a nice performance boost from upgrading the RAM(assuming you're running XP and not vista:p) And performance in games should be much nicer too, a much faster GFX card upgrade. Blam |

| 766568 | 2009-04-20 13:05:00 | The 775 is in the acer now and that's what I'll be using, as well as the 2gig ram and 7600 card. It's just I'm unsure of the 2.93 mhz that the acer has or the 3.00 mhz that my pc has. Will I be going back by using the acer? All XP:) |

| 766569 | 2009-04-20 13:10:00 | The only thing with the 775 pin is the ram, it would probably go faster with DDR 2 ram (which it probably doesnt support) You would have to change the mobo |

All XP:) Both would be similar except the older 478 socket one would be better for OC'ing and the 775 would be faster at stock speeds since it has a faster bus |
