766321 2009-04-19 09:43:00 Just bought an iphone. Found it doesn't render some websites properly. It drops the graphics & the screen is all text. That makes it really hard to use.

Is it possible to change the duration of the text message alerts. 1 or 2 seconds is not enough for me to hear it & realise it's the phone, especially when I get a message at night, which happens regularly

766322 2009-04-19 09:57:00 Hi Phil B,

Congrats on your purchase ;)

Some websites aren't quite 100%, what ones in particular are you having trouble with? Landscape viewing makes things much better, I find I don't have to zoom terribly much when in that viewing mode.

Yes, you can change the alerts, go into Settings --> Sounds --> New Text Message.
If you want anything longer, completely custom, then you'll need to jailbreak your iPhone (Which we can't offer assistance with here, forum rules sorry) and then you can customize them :)

Hope this helps

766324 2009-04-19 11:16:00 I got it because it's got nice big clear fonts on txt + it's got wifi. I did consider the blackberry storm too. Downside to a touch phone is you can't txt when driving lol. So thats gotta be a good thing.

I've been googling & found you can use the itunes program to custom make your own ringtones. I've done a couple. The subwoofer's a bit poor lol.

I'm looking into making message alerts now.

I'm going to jailbreak the phone asap. Can't find any info on the latest firmware tho v2.30.03

If you want to know the site, I'll pm it to you Chill. The site's not illegal or smutty or anything that's going to offend anyone. I just don't want to broadcast what I do at night haha

Not quite an "update", all firmwares have the same version. Jailbreaking will allow custom sms-tones though ;)

Actually you'd be surprised how easy it is to txt without staring at the screen after a while. Just hit in the general direction of the buttons and auto-correct will fix most mistakes :)

Ringtones yes, sms tones no :(

Oh its out there ;) You're not trying to break the *latest* firmware though, try broadening your search a little and you'll find what you're after.

Yeah looks like coz there's a bit of flash on there. It doesnt even load properly in Chrome or Firefox on my desktop for some reason (Im positive I have Flash installed). Maybe its Privoxy on my machine blocking it. Oh well ..

The browser is almost a full regular browser, so you'll be amazed how well a lot of sites render ;)

Hope this has helped
