| 766258 | 2009-04-19 06:02:00 | I was just browsing youtube yesterday when suddenly my pc died without warning. The fans didn't wind down or anything it just stopped dead. I thought it would most likely be the motherboard/PSU so I borrowed a spare PSU from a mate and put it in. Didn't work. So I unplugged everything but the motherboard and cpu power connectors and it worked. Through a process of elimination I discovered if the graphics card is plugged in to the power the PC will not start. Even the fans will not start. To test this I started the PC with no power connecting to the video card, and when it had been going for a minute or 2 I plugged the power into the video card. My PC instantly died. I am currently running on my 32mb inbuilt video off my motherboard As the motherboard is AGP I am going to be buying a new one plus a new video card in the next few days. My question is, what would cause the computer to not work when the video card is plugged into the power? Not even the cpu fan would start. Nothing at all would work. P.S What do you think of these for replacements? I can only spend about $400 www.computerlounge.co.nz www.computerlounge.co.nz |

| 766259 | 2009-04-19 06:12:00 | Could be the Video Card playing up, or could also be the AGP slot - As for the two items you linked - both good for mid range activity - I use and sell a few to my own customers. BTW - what CPU is in your current PC,the new board, it requires a Socket 775, so your Current CPU will also need to be socket 775 other wise it wont work. |
