| 592047 | 2007-09-17 19:36:00 | About the only thing going for it besides flash and gadgets (Vista) has a real problem that may be caused by Google and it's own desktop search engine. by: Ashlee Vance in Las Vegas (mailto:ashlee.vance@theregister.co.uk) ".....Vista does not have much going for it. At present, the OS mutilates my dual-core Athlon box from HP. It shuns software such as Adobe's Audition sound package or the even more "Vista-ready" Cubase software. Worst of all, Vista boots slower and slower with every passing day as new applications add to its bloat. Many people miffed by this poor performance will find themselves outraged when tools such as Google desktop search let them down...." Article here: www.channelregister.co.uk I don't totally agree, and don't even wish M$ any form of happiness for their heavy handed techniques and spyware and especially WMP11..but this too is interesting. |

| 592048 | 2007-09-18 07:58:00 | I'll take Vista's built in desktop search over googles any day of the week . Google is rubbish (and thats being polite) With google on Xp I made up some word documents, as well as photos put them on the desktop - and google couldn't even find them till 2 days later . On vista it found the same documents/photos with in seconds . |

I get so many results on G-Search that I have troubles sorting thru them sometimes . That setting eluded me for a while, but I find with it that way now, the G-Search is very thorough . Time like you said, is contingent on the amount of time you allow G-Search to access the files . It is usually running in the background if you let it and it needs a lot of time to collate everything . I think Google set it up to not bother with hidden files for security sake . . remember that they warn you about administrative rights and try to protect you from that dangerous condition . You can however, tell G-Search to go into the hidden stuff . I'm not too sure if you can turn that part OFF in Vista Search . :dogeye: |
