| 592041 | 2007-09-17 19:25:00 | Got a good friend who runs a karaoke system for parties, graduations, bars and such who accidentally got the "upgrade for Windows Media Player" proffered by a pop-in from M$ and now lost the ability to burn any of the music she has rightfully paid for and used via v10 for years . Seems that v11 says the files are not legal and won't do anything but let her play them whilst they exist on her hdd via WMP11 . . . and she cannot send them to an alternate device . She even had an interview with a person of celebrity whom she recorded herself and also promised a copy of the session via a cd she would burn for him . . . NOPE! WMP11 won't allow it . Nero, B's and Audacity cannot import the files as they each say the files don't exist . Seems the files are playable ONLY on the puter where they live . :illogical She CAN record them on the fly, but the originals are at ±1k and she doesn't want to degrade the value to a <128k cut . This gets worser and worser . Right on, M$ . . . . . they are protecting us, one and all! I told her to not accept the upgrade in a letter I send to friends and people I know, but this was kinda disguised as a security upgrade, not a version upgrade . |
