| 591547 | 2007-09-16 02:32:00 | Sat Sep 15, 6:00 PM ET Microsoft Corp. is forcing Windows Live and MSN Messenger users to upgrade to the newest version due to a security update included in that release, according to a posting on a Microsoft blog. ADVERTISEMENT Anyone using 6.2, 7.0 and 7.5 versions of MSN Messenger or Windows Live Messenger 8.0 will be guided through the upgrade process to Windows Live Messenger 8.1 when they try to log in to their chat client, according to a blog posting by a security product manager at Microsoft calling himself "Anand." This will replace the option upgrade notice that users have been given when using those versions of the product since January, he wrote. | 591548 | 2007-09-16 02:35:00 | Someone I know, a mate of his did just that, and for some strange reason, it killed his sound. The soundcard is fine, BUT everytime he reboots. the sound dies. The sound was FINE, before he upgraded MSN Messenger. |

| 591550 | 2007-09-16 03:16:00 | I recently tried Windows Live Messenger (upgraded from 7.5), but for some reason I could not connect to the Interweb with it. Said I had something in my Hosts file that was incompatible (ad blocking!!). It offered to 'fix' the Hosts file, which I allowed, but still fell over. Even tried with a blank Hosts file. No luck. If they force me to upgrade, I will just uninstall the damn thing and go to Skype full-time!! Typical M$ bully-boy tactics... |

Second, posting comments like those I've deleted that this doesn't affect me because I use a Mac would be like me running around all the threads about Window issues just saying "this doesn't affect me" because I use Linux - who really cares?! These sorts of comments are made to start flame wars. Thirdly, if someone has made a useless comment like that, don't reply back in kind. Winmacguy, if you continue to deliberately attempt to start flame wars over Macs, then you may find it hard to do so when your account is locked out for a period of time. You have been warned. Others, if you start making comments just to put fuel on the fire about Macs vs Windows, then you too will get some time out. This constant bickering and deliberate baiting has to stop as it is wearing very thin and while it may entertain a small select group, the other members of this forum can do without it. Thank you. |

Because they prefer to stick to the big guy, some people just don't like upgrading until the version been out so long that its about to be replaced. |
