591010 2007-09-14 04:59:00 I am trying to find out the most reliable means of making many long mobile to mobile calls from NZ to USA. I currently have a Vodafone You Choose plan with International 90, but that lasts less than a week. I have heard about cheap international calling cards and browsed this thread (forums.pcworld.co.nz), but it is over a year old.

I was hoping that there would be some users here who use these cards who could tell me how good they are. Obviously the thought of paying 3c or 4c per minute is very appealing compared to the standard vodafone rates, but surely there is a downside - poor quality or availability issues.

591011 2007-09-14 05:13:00 Having done some further checking, I get the impression that these cards are designed for landline to landline calls and that vodafone's 49c per minute is probably quite competitive.

Is this correct?

I have downloaded and installed Skype, but a lot of the time a mobile is the most convenient method.

Not for me. I don't have a smart phone lol. Thanks for the suggestion though. I did take a look at the Skype Mobile stuff, thinking it may be for any mobile. Never mind.

591017 2007-09-14 06:08:00 In that case I think your probably out of luck. Skype on a laptop with a BB connection would be your best bet because the mobile to mobile country to country calling your talking about would cost $$$

Do you work in any areas that have Wifi or are you mainly outside those areas?

I think you are right. From what I can see, I'd still pay the local mobile fee anyway, plus there are surcharges added for mobile calls, so the normal vodafone international rate is probably by far the cheapest option.
