The price won't make a difference. If the mouse works, it works. That's nothing to do with the drivers not installing.

In my opinion there's something wrong with your windows that the drivers can't install onto it. Not that you need the drivers that come with the mouse, windows will install the mouse itself but any advanced features that are enabled by the driver which comes with the mouse won't be available.

Since the mouse worked fine in your laptop, it's obviously good.

What other USB devices do you have in your PC? Do any of them take power from the USB ports or do they all power themselves (like printer etc)

It could be that there's something wrong with the 5 volts coming from your USB ports

Or perhaps there's something wrong with the USB drivers on your machine.

A USB to PS/2 adaptor might help if the problem is USB related but it won't make the drivers install.

It could be that whatever problem is causing the drivers not to install, is also causing the mouse not to work at all.

Flashdrives seem to work perfectly, the printer worked (USB Printer, but it had problems with drivers)

I tried another wireless mouse which is usb and It couldn't install the drivers (device install error, could not load drivers etc etc) but it worked fine on the laptop. Would a repair installation work?

766138 2009-04-21 10:13:00 Try performing a sfc/ scannow and a chkdsk /f first.

Something has definetly gone wrong in windows...

When I do sfc /scannow a cmd box comes up for about half a second and then it leaves.

What do you think has gone wrong in windows

In Device Manager it comes up in Human Interface Devices and its listed as a Logitech Optical Tilt Wheel Mouse Yet It Doesn't Work.

Thanks for your reply

Run>cmd>sfc /scannow
