If National did it they would lose the suport of the rural folk. In the country kids need to drive as sson as possible. Maybe city kids should wait till age 18 and country kids could still get theirs at 15. tedheath What the ****? Why should rural kids get special treatment, eh? You can't have one rule for some people and another special rule for others. That's not how the world works. How do you think a city kid would feel if their classmate who lived in the country got a license at 15 but not him? Country kids are not necessarily better drivers than the city kids and they might possibly be worse because in the country, the roads are less crowded and you wouldn't have to be as careful. In the city, there are more hazards and obstacles so you need to be more careful. Kids in the country would have been driving tractors and farm bikes since they were knee-high to a grasshopper, but they would be used to driving at faster speeds and not having to be as careful because they'd just be driving on a quieter road and around the farm fields. They would not be used to the city 'climate'. No. If you raise it, you raise it for EVERYBODY. NO EXCEPTIONS. |

No excuses just take licenses straight away. Impound the cars. Sick of all the pussy footing, i think everyone forgets driving is a priviledge(sp?) not a rite. As for the age, I think 16/17 is a reasonable age to start. I agree with everything you say EXCEPT the LAST bit. 15 is a sensible age now. If it's raised, the problems would just migrate to the next highest age group. |

| 591678 | 2007-10-30 21:04:00 | And what about speeding? Take the car away? If I was 18 and my parents allowed me to use their car and I planted my boot? That depends on how fast they were going. Okay, maybe for the first ten, fifteen kilometres over the limit, just ticket them. But any more than that, automatic license suspension for twenty-eight days and the car impounded for the same length of time. Unless it was a borrowed car, in which case the person driving's license should be suspended for twenty-eight days, and the owner should be called and told to come pick up their car, and that this person is not to drive for twenty-eight days. As for planting your boot, what the heck does that mean? |

Seems thick to me. it is stupid, there should be a power restriction. funny thing is, an inline 4 250cc sportbike is much faster than most cars on the roads, yet the limit is still a sensible, practical one - probably one of the best made/planned decisions the govt ever made:lol: |

Have you got a small train engine in your car? Five cubic metres of water weighs five tons, five cubic metres of metal, probably more. If I had a car with a 5000cc engine in it... I'd be dead (I'm 16, so one of the highest-risk age groups). |

Don't leave school yet as your maths need a bit of work. 5000cc is 5 liters or about 0.005 cubic metres. |

LOL You should be better at maths than that if your 16. 2000cc eg an old Cortina 3000cc maybe a newish Honda 4000cc Jeep 4x4 5000cc some small V8's 7000cc+ some bigger V8's Dodge Viper V10 and 7986cc Worlds Largest Motorbike has an 8200cc V8 engine. (Not a road bike though). Limit 15-18 year olds to under 1200cc. Eg a Toyota Echo, Ford Fiesta sizes etc. With no mods like wheel/exhaust/suspension etc. |
