591557 2007-09-16 10:14:00 Because they prefer to stick to the big guy, some people just don't like upgrading until the version been out so long that its about to be replaced.

Isn't upgrading WMl just like patching windows? You would presumably upgrade to each version either than beta just like you would install windows update everytime there's an update?

You would think so, some people hesitate to patch windows, look how long it took people to accept SP2 in xp as a good thing

591559 2007-09-16 10:49:00 Well, the new messenger does have some nice functions and looks quite good over previous versions as well. I've used the beta as well and the whole program is very stable. Definitely worth upgrading to. beeswax34 (63)
591560 2007-09-16 11:05:00 Me personally always download the latest patches and upgrades for software and OS. Sometimes you have issues most of the time you don't. plod (107)
591561 2007-09-17 04:54:00 Just upgrade. windows live messenger has way more features than msn messenger. lance4k (4644)
591562 2007-09-18 01:42:00 The biggest concern I have is that a forced upgrade may break third-party clients. If they're changing the protocol then chances are I won't be able to connect using Adium for a few days. On the other hand, if they're just sending out a "message" saying "please upgrade" then the third-party clients should be fine. I'll wait and see. Nermal (7077)
591563 2007-09-18 02:19:00 i think its actually a good thing

i only found out about this "problem" today because i upgraded to the latest version as soon as it came out

yes its full of crap and bloat but this little tool http://apatch.org/ can strip every little bit of bloat and stuff you don't need and makes it a lot faster too :D

591564 2007-09-18 02:34:00 OK - I bit the bullet and upgraded. It looks prettier than MSN Messenger 7.5, but I haven't seen a lot of additional features that I will use yet.

The reason I stuck with 7.5 so long is that I knew it worked on my machine - I seem to recall that WLM was originally released as a 'Beta', and I heard there were issues with it. Looks like this version is OK (until someone finds the hole...)

591565 2007-09-18 02:48:00 Actually the beta was very stable. The one problem I had was that there was a noticeable lag when you changed colour schemes. It run a bit slow when you first opened it but it never crashed or anything. beeswax34 (63)
591566 2007-09-18 03:11:00 I like WLM a lot. Always upgrade pretty quick, and never had any problems. Used to use Gaim, and tried a few others, but wen't back to WLM

The MSN Messenger Plus extension is great, I always install that
