766296 2009-04-19 06:50:00 I’m in Aus at the moment and looking for a new Laptop.

The choice so far is between an Asus Pro50GL-AP236C and an ASUS Pro50GL-AP333C.

I’ve googled myself silly but can’t find the specifications for either. Even the Asus website hasn’t heard of either of them yet.

Given that I’d like to know just what it is I may purchase can anybody point me in the right direction or pass an opinion? :thanks

766297 2009-04-19 07:12:00 Think they are an Aussie flavoured Asus laptop. Why not get a laptop in NZ?

I've found the specs for one of them so far:

766298 2009-04-19 07:18:00 Try www.thegoodguys.com.au according to them the only difference is 2.16GHz CPU and 3GB Ram for the AP333C and " Price available in store" jinja_thom (4306)
766299 2009-04-19 07:32:00 My guess is that it is now obselete in NZ and they are replacing it with a new series.
Its still available in US if you still want it, but you could probably find an alternative.

766300 2009-04-19 07:34:00 Additional info because I didn't realise they were so wide spread, go to the Toowoomba store and select computers/notebooks from the products list. jinja_thom (4306)

766302 2009-04-19 10:00:00 Thanks everyone and a special big thanks to Jen who somehow found exactly what I couldn’t.

Jen, I’d be only too happy to buy in NZ if I could. I’ve got a mate looking for one too. (although he may have purchased whilst I’ve been away) The thing is the Aussie prices a fairly sharp and I’ve found you can save enough to pay you airfare if you do it right. ;)

Yes jijja thom, the Good Guys is where I’m looking. I’ve dealt with them before and they’re there to do business. Dick Smith had a special on a nice little Canon Digi Cam but when I went to buy one I was told there was only three or four on special and it didn’t include the store I was at. So my daughter rang the Good Guys who had them on the shelf for the normal retail (+$100 on the special price) and they matched Dick Smiths special price, plus threw in a camera case, four rechargeable batteries and a charger for the batteries. Hooked me. :)

Anyway, the specifications supplied look fairly sharp to me, how about you guys?

:thanks

766303 2009-04-19 10:23:00 I reckon the CPU is too slow.
You'd want at least a clock speed of 2.1-2.4ghz these days IMO.

Hard drive is good, nice and big

What will it be used for?

766304 2009-04-19 10:50:00 Jen... why not recommend the machine you and others suggested to me? It's brilliant, especially at the price. Greg (193)

True..the M51VR is also a good option.

Both the M51VR and www.dexternights.com are around the 1500 mark but here are their pros:

M51VR:
+Faster graphics card
+Has both DVI and HDMI while PRO50GL-AP236C only has hmdi

PRO50GL-AP236C
+Newer processor, uses 45nm core instead of 65nm (www.dexternights.com) therefore faster
+Larger hard drive(320gb vs 250gb)

So basicaly for gaming and cad work you want the M51VR

For typical normal needs, then get the PRO50GL-AP236C
