2009-04-17 01:45:00 | HI Guys I got home the other and turned my PC on and it was dead. I diagnosed it as the PSU and took it out and put in another one and its fine. So my PSU is dead. It was an Enermax 600W unit with the nice fancy cables. It was only 15 months old. I have always run 2 hard drives and for the last 3 months have had three in it (meaning to remove one at some stage) Do you think I was overloading it ? I have a standard graphics card and nothing else fancy. What is a good brand to buy ?

2009-04-17 01:50:00 | Vantec ION2 500w is a good choice (or the 550w). Good performance at a good price. I doubt the HDD's would contribute to the death of the PSU. HDD's typically use around 8w and up to 30w to boot. Also Enermax has 3 years warranty does it not? It is just outside store warranty so maybe you could sweet talk them into handling the RMA for you.

2009-04-17 01:54:00 | 3 hard drives for a 600w PSU is definetly not overloading it. Enermax is generally a good PSU brand, so I'm quite suprised. Best PSU's IMO are Antec Neopowers, any Corsairs(HX preferred) and silverstone is OK Blam

2009-04-17 01:56:00 | **** happens - PSus fail. 600w is heaps for a few HDDs. I had 4 drives, 7600GT, 2x DVD RW, fan controllers, neons, p4 3GHZ dual core... All running on a 400w PSU with no issues. Enermax is a good brand though, I've also had good runs with Silverstone, and Thermaltake (the toughpower series).

2009-04-17 02:21:00 | Wouldn't be over loading it, PSUs blow for many reasons - one power surge/Spike and POOF - gone | wainuitech (129) | |
2009-04-17 04:07:00 | Ive got similar stories to wratterus, but my graphics card wasnt quite as nice, no neons, but I had 6x HDD's on a 350watt I think ... Doubt it blew from overloading... or if it did, man Ive been lucky this last year or two :D

2009-04-18 07:09:00 | So my PSU is dead. It was an Enermax 600W unit with the nice fancy cables. It was only 15 months old. A 600W unit should handle three hard drives with ease so I doubt that killed it. Send it back to where you got it. Enermax PSUs have a two-year warranty and will either repair or replace it.
