767708 2009-04-23 03:01:00 What's the free bit of software I need to block the ad sites that are slowing PC World forums down and where do I get it?

I see on the new that there's "Adblock" and "Ad Blocker" - wot's the difference?

I'm using Vista Home Premium SP 1 and Firefox 3.0.9

Thanks

767709 2009-04-23 03:06:00 Get adblock plus for firefox (it's an addon). With it, Press F1 loads within 2 secounds for me :) davidmmac (4619)
767710 2009-04-23 03:12:00 You have a few options here:

Adblock+ addon, blocks all ads pretty much

NoScript, blocks ads and scripts from running

All the above are addons

Or..

Custom stylish script for PF1 which makes everything neat and easy to read

767714 2009-04-24 02:13:00 Here's a strange thing - I've done nothing as regard the posts but the slow loading has stopped! It's a bit like making an appointment at the doctor or the dentist and the symptoms immediately disappear - weird! tuiruru (12277)
767715 2009-04-24 10:35:00 It's probably some bad Flash ads that caused your slowdown.

If you want the same results as Adblocker with Internet Explorer, you don't need a plug-in you can just use the built in filtering. It's really easy, instructions here:
Block ads using IE8 (on10.net)

767716 2009-04-27 06:24:00 I use flash killer for Firefox 2.0.0.20, I find FF3 just that bit slower to use.
Its funny how you need all these add ons for the web to function normally. Back in 1996 with 56k modems it wasnt much slower.4kB html pages only!

767717 2009-04-27 09:47:00 I use flash killer for Firefox 2 . 0 . 0 . 20, I find FF3 just that bit slower to use .

Be careful with that, Firefox 2 has at least six serious security holes ( . technet . com/security/archive/2009/03/09/supplemental-data-for-calculating-mozilla-patching-speed . aspx" target="_blank">blogs . technet . com) that have been unfixed since before the beginning of 2008 .

You'd almost certainly be better off with any current supported browser from a security point of view .

IE, Safari and Opera all had around 30 new vulnerabilities in 2008 according to the recent Secunia browser security report ( . com/gfx/Secunia2008Report . pdf" target="_blank">secunia . com), Firefox had about four times more vulnerabilties over the same period .
