767718 2009-04-23 02:19:00 Do any of you use or have a Asus Eee Notebook?

If you do here are some questions:

1. How do find the performance over a normal sized laptop?
2. How long does the battery last for on a single charge?
3. Can Windows XP be loaded on to the notebook?
4. Does the Eee PC use flash memory? If so can somebody tell me what flash memory is?

767719 2009-04-23 02:32:00 I have an Eee PC 900 (Celeron)

1. Not as good as it is only single core
2. Not sure, haven't run it down completely before
3. Yes
4. Yes

767720 2009-04-23 02:36:00 1. There is a dual core coming out for it tho, so I've read

2. May depend on which model you get

3. Yup or Linux

4. Info about the EEE PC here (en.wikipedia.org)

767721 2009-04-23 02:55:00 I have the eee 90 1.

1. Its pretty good for simple tasks. To keep it speedy make sure you only put the essentails on

2. Depends on which model. The eee 701 has around 3 hrs, eee 900 around 4-5, and my 901 is around 5-6 because it uses the atom processor, which consumes less power

3. Yes, some are preinstalled with XP otherwise you can get linux version and install it yourself.

4. Yes, uses an SSD(solid state drive) which pretty much means it doesn't has moving parts such as a conventional hard drive and therefore is more rugged. It is also faster than a hard drive(no physical spinning). Uses less battery too

1. I have the 1st generation 701, so it has a slow Celeron in it. The newer ones with the Atom processor in them are much better, but still nowhere near the power of a modern dual-core chip
2) Depends a lot on what model you have - mine lasts around 1-2 hrs
3) Yes. Lots of the models you get now have XP preinstalled
4) Depends - some models use flash memory (either soldered onto the motherboard, or on a separate board), while others use hard drives. Check the specs carefully - the smaller capacity drives (i.e. 20GB or lower) are SSD, ones 120GB or higher are hard drives.

767723 2009-04-23 03:36:00 Hi Jimm

most of the new generation Eee PC netbooks will have atom CPU. either the N270 processer or N280 processer.

As for your questions

1. Its good, if all your going to do with it is browse net, do some typing etc
2. depends on the models. 1000H/HA will last up to 7.5 hours but realistic use is 4-6
the new 1000HE is up to 9 hours and again realistic use is 6-8 hours.
3. Yes. I have even seen Vista loaded on an eee pc 90 1.
4. yes some models will. 701, 901 and S101 will all have SSD. there is a premium version of the S101 with a whopping 120GB SSD.
If your looking for bigger HDD then your better off going for a model thats not SSD, such as 904H/HA, 1000H/HA, and 1000HE

767724 2009-04-23 03:55:00 I've got a 1000h

1. works fine for me, boots up much faster than my c2d vaio, I use it mostly for notetaking and c++ programming, havn't had any speed issues so far
2. I get at least 4. 5 hours out of a battery, up to 6.5 if I am nice to it, it also charges very fast, less than 1.5 hours for a full charge
3. it came with windows xp, I will be loading windows 7 as soon as that is released, going back to xp now with all my other computers on vista just feels so crippled.
4. my particular one has a 160gb hdd, but yes they can be had with flash memory

767725 2009-04-23 08:44:00 Mine is a 4g 701, it has never had any MS OS on it. At the moment it is running Puppy Linux, which is OK but not brilliant. It has the solid state drive so that helps give it a battery life in excess of 3.5 hrs. Using the Vodem however knocks the battery time to less than an hour.
Giving it 2 GB of RAM was a good idea.
For portability it is streets ahead of any other laptop I've tried.
