767123 2009-04-21 21:35:00 Would replacing my 350 watt power supply with something bigger improve my performance in games and flight simulator? convair (13650)
767124 2009-04-21 22:06:00 Yes Driftwood (5551)
767125 2009-04-21 22:12:00 Not likely. A bigger PSU will only allow you to run a newer CPU, faster graphics card, more HDDs etc.
I'm guessing with a 350W your PC is pretty old, so you will most benefit from a complete upgrade - new PSU, motherboard, CPU, graphics card, HDD.

767126 2009-04-21 23:40:00 No.

For gaming the 2 most important things are:

1)The best graphics card you can get
2)The best CPU you can get

but you will probably have to settle for:

1)The best graphics card you can afford
2)The best CPU you can afford

Of course, that may mean you'll need a better PSU to power it all........

767127 2009-04-22 00:30:00 As PCTek the most important parts for gaming is the GFX card and CPU.

So invest your money in that.

BUT lacking power in other parts will affect it too, so try to keep it nice an even:)

A larger PSU may mean better stability and room for more upgrades in the future, so it helps in the long term, but it generally won't "speed" things up

767128 2009-04-22 01:53:00 I guess everyone is assuming you have not already upgraded CPU/GFX/HDD etc and are starving them of power. In that case yes it would help but exactly how noticeable in game play is open to interpretation dzina (6860)
767129 2009-04-22 02:26:00 I upgraded the my PC from a Pentium 500mhz to a AMD 3200 1.8ghz CPU and motherboard, 2gb of RAM, 80gb Hardrive Seagate SATA @ 7200RPM. Graphics card is a ATI 3650 PCIE card.

Not bad for somebody who built the PC myself!

767130 2009-04-22 10:36:00 Anybody know how big the power supply should be? convair (13650)
767131 2009-04-22 10:39:00 350w is just fine.

400w would leave a bit more room for upgrades though

767132 2009-04-22 10:40:00 400 - 450 should be enough. I'm using a 1.6 AMD , the PSU in that is only 420W

Youre not going to get the fastest thing in the country with a 1.8
