594283 2007-09-23 20:22:00 with out bringing up an old thread about fridges.....

my fridge has take to being too cool and freezing everything, was found to be running 24/7

any thought as to the problem? (I assume it a thermostat problem)

any idea of cost? (its F&P about 4 years old)

and the real question is who do you recommend who to call to get it fixed??

594284 2007-09-23 21:05:00 take the easy options first, check door seals, is there enough venalation at the back adjust the thermostat see if there is any change, if no change then go to service a agent . beama (111)
594285 2007-09-23 21:35:00 Make sure that the circulating fan inside the box is really working...when they poop out, you freeze hard in areas that shouldn't and the freezer can get strange too.

The thermostat cannot "see" the temps if the air inside the box is not circulating. Remember that cold air sinks (hot or warmer air in this case) rises and the zones get messed up.

That will make the compressor run all the time trying to satisfy the demand on the thermostat.

594286 2007-09-23 22:31:00 A few years ago I brought a new Samsung fridge. I lived in the guts of the South Island where it was very very cold and my fridge started freezing all my food. I went into the shop where I brought it (can't remember where) to confront them about it and told them how upset I was that quite a bit of my food had to be thrown out. They said that a lot of the newer fridges will cause food to freeze if situated in a room thats very cold. Nothing they could do, not their fault, was written somewhere in the very fine print of the manufacturers book blah blah blah. I got a voucher for a supermarket .... I lived in quite a large house but found once I started warming up the back kitchen where my fridge was I no longer had that problem. Since moving to Hamilton where its not that cold I have only had that problem a couple of times. Not sure if thats the problem with yours, could simply be like the others said. never-u-mind (6500)

Sounds like rubbish. The fridges that is.
My house has been 7 degrees inside on a cold morning.
Never had freezing food, yes we have had to adjust the butter warmer slightly but thats it.
Of course I have an old fridge.........probably from when they made them properly.

Yep thats what the guy in the shop said . Old fridges heaps better .

It got pretty cold down there, the water would freeze including in the inside taps . Had to run them dry the night before or wait for hours for them to defrost .

594289 2007-09-23 23:11:00 Yeah, our old (30 years) F&P fridge keeps stuff at a more constant temp than the new F&P. We have to muck around with the temp depending on the temperature in the room. The only reason we 'upgraded' was because the old one was getting noisier and noisier... bit of a pity. It sits in the garage now, and we use it for a drinks fridge around Christmas. :D wratterus (105)
594290 2007-09-24 00:45:00 Most likely it is the thermostat, I had exactly the same problem, cost about $160 to fix (about $65 for the thermostat), the guy was recommended by L V Martins service dept, cant remember his name though sorry. feersumendjinn (64)
594291 2007-09-24 01:27:00 Sounds like the fridge here.

And its ice cold, and freezes on the bottom of the fridge.

What happens here, it creates a puddle on the bottom of the fridge after say a week or 2.

It took a while to figure out, what was causing it, but after a while one of the wires coming from the back of the thermostat came out (light blue/white).

From behind the plate / condenser whatever it is which is at the back inside of the fridge.

If you turn the thermostat up past 4, then it shuts off completely.

Before this wire came out, it would have cost $75 for 1/2 an hr or something!

BUT, now that I know what the prob is, all we have to do now, is get someone in, to reattach this wire to wherever it came from.

594292 2007-09-24 01:38:00 The South Island can be cold. The walk in freezer at the airforce camp in Dip Flat was warmer inside than outside during the winter months.
Its really stink your F&P fridge crapping out when its only 4 yrs old.
F&P is shifting its business to Communist china good riddance.
I have a 40 yr old piss fridge and its still goes sweet.
They dont make them like they used to.
Make sure you get a refridge engineer that been around awhile instead of some clown who will replace every part and regas it to make it work.
