I need the "Caused by nature, assisted by Man" option

593463 2007-09-20 23:24:00 Climate will always change it has to, it can't stay still.

One volcano probably spews as much co2 as we produce in a year.

I think a more important issue is lack of rain and food.

So my answer is to start reducing the worlds population !

I notice that this government is now following other governments like lost sheep . This argument is just another chance for the PM to go all green like most other countries to bolster her votes at the next election . Climate is not stationary, but changes differently every century .

As for carbon credits, what a laugh . So you pay $1700 on Trademe to offset your carbon footprint, and still create more carbon by using your vehicle, and other means, and you feel better cos you paid for the credit . Yeah right . Your still doing the same thing, even if you have paid for credits . Just makes it all so sublimely stupid .

Lost sheep seldom follow other governments, at the moment they are in opposition bleating. I'm pretty sure it is stationery, at least on paper it is. And is there another way of changing, one that doesn't involve "differently"? And I should get out more

593469 2007-09-21 07:58:00 The climate change we are experiencing had it's genesis in the industrialisation of the 19th century . Factories spewing out millions of tons of soot . And we've just continued on that way for 150 years .

Our factories may be relatively clean in the West but our vehicles more than make up for that . In the developing world it is business as usual . Most of Asia (including China) is covered by a brown haze from pollutants .

The Artic tundra is warmng up, releasing organic carbon . This reaches the oceans and acidifies the water . Marine life forms commonly use calcium compounds to make shells, exoskeletons etc which dissolve in acid water .

Whether you accept this or not - and there is plenty of scientific research - the political steps to counter global warming are really anti-pollution measures . Pollution will kill us unless we can halt poisoning our environment .

Rant over .
