| 592988 | 2007-09-19 22:35:00 | Hi Guys I saw the other day that the Maori weather guy Brendon something (my mum thinks he's handsome) was taking redundancy from TVNZ. He obviously did not want to as he said he did not have anything lined up (aside from a bit more surfing at Papamoa beach. You will imagine my surprise when I hear that TVNZ have rehired Jim Hickey and a lady to do the evening weather ! No wow disrespect to Jim (he is a nice guy also) but surely the reason you make someone redundant is that their position is redundant/surplus ie you cant afford to keep it open. ! So why hire two more presenters ? I think Brendon would have a good case in the employment court ! Cos what they have really done is sacked him as they think Jim will draw more viewers away from Toni Regards Digby |

Toni is good with words, every sentence has a cool word in it. Not the staid language previously used. I wont watch Jim beacause he is a god botherer. Yeah I agree Brendan was a good presenter he should sue tv1s ass. Perhaps if the chicks starting showing some clevage they would get more viewers. tedheath |

| 592993 | 2007-09-20 01:42:00 | If TVNZ have made Brendan Horan's position redundant, forcing him to leave the company, and have then hired Jim Hickey to do effectively the same role, then this is a constructive dismissal rather than a redundancy and Brendan Horan would have a very good case to take to the Employment Court . However, the TVNZ Legal Eagles (Buzzards, more like), have probably got some great weasel words to explain why Jim Hickey is back and why Brendan's position is redundant . . . Hope he got a good payout! But I much prefer to watch Toni (mmmmm!!!!) on TV3 . |

I cannot see that TVNZ - or any other station - would offer contracts that would legally bind them to use a particular person for broadcast if they didn't want to. There would be some "out" for them if the person did not rate well enough. News-time is prime-time - it's when they charge the most for advertising. | Deane F (8204) | ||

He would have had a contract for a certain period; for him to go before that time is up would require some compensation.. |

It apears that TVNZ are bringing back thier loved presenters, to try to boast their flagging viewership and loss of advertising. I wouldn't be surprised to see Judy Bailey back to host the weekend news. |
