592897 2007-09-26 08:52:00 "The best argument against democracy is a five-minute conversation with the average voter."

That was Winston Churchill, a Tory. Nevertheless, as a (previous)labour voter, sums up the comments made so far.

592898 2007-09-26 09:58:00 Its not as bad as Winnie made out, dumb ass people cant be bothered to vote. If polling day is wet labour is historicaly koozed, the sort of people who vote labour cant be buggered to vote.
Pray for rain get a cool Nats back.

592899 2007-09-26 11:13:00 And there is the other definition of democracy that that fantastic radio presenter, Lindsy Perigo, used to quote,"Democracy is two wolves and a sheep discussing lunch"
I'm sick of having my money stolen to pay people to sit on their arses or to breed ad infinitum. Now we're being hit with a carbon tax that will not fix a problem we don't have a hand in creating. It can be apathy or stupidity that stops the people from rising up.....and if it rains? Is that the latter or the former?

Oh really? As well as proposing to sell off the family silver (remember railways and post, and think Tranzrail and Telecom), here is another little gem for the Tory fanboys and those who think anything will be better than the current crowd: www.stuff.co.nz

And just note that we were not supposed to know about this policy - it was only thanks to media probing that this became public. What else are they cooking up behind closed doors to return us to the ghastly 1990's?

And note the lovely tautology in the article: Tony Ryall thinks! What a wonderful contradiction in terms - for the past two and half terms of Labour coalition government, all he has done is whinge without presenting any realistic policy alternatives. He has never been known to show signs of being able to think before... And where did he get his information from about how WE think? Talking to his Tory mates over tea and sausage rolls perhaps? What a representative poll that would be!

592902 2007-09-28 20:17:00 It is all slowly leaking out. Not only the embarrassing Tony Ryall's backtrack on GP fees, but now here is another one for the Nat fanboys:

www.stuff.co.nz

Same old, same old. The Tories haven't got any new ideas. After all this time in the wilderness, the wonderboy from State house land has recycled:

1. more funding for private schools
2. dumping bulk funding of teacher salaries.

What is wrong with them? You would think they could have thought of ONE new policy instead of recycling tired old rubbish that has been rejected several times already by the electorate.

So those of you who think anything is better than the present coalition government may want to think again - vote National and go back to the failures of the past. Wealth for the already wealthy and more misery for the poor.

Work for the dole.
Abolish Community Services Card.
Reduce taxes for the rich.
Reduce Health Services.
Increase Personal responsibility - whatever that means.
War on the poor.
Increase perks for already privileged sectors.

Apart from the first two, the rest I am sure are personal interpretations of policy rather than ACTUAL stated policy. I see nothing wrong with a long-time beneficiary being required to contribute to the economy. If more people were earning (doing PRODUCTIVE work) there would be more money to spend for everyone, and less need for taxpayer-funded benefits.

You say that like it's a bad thing.... :D :D :D I always thought it was government's role to govern, not manage, the lives of the people who elected them. There is a huge difference between the two concepts.

A. Yes it is... :)
B. I don't see the relevance to the comment I made.
