| 593395 | 2007-09-22 02:39:00 | we get 7 bucks free weekly, and all internal stuff is obviously free... so that's 100mb a week free usage, which isn't much, but for email/minor stuff it isn't bad either... i barely use a dollar a week, only occasionally check trademe/weather/forums when i'm stuck there with nothing to do oh, and it would appear that video streams and a few other things don't count, so youtube to your heart's content i just checked, it's $0.07/MB peak (9am-8pm) and $0.03/MB offpeak, and using their webmail which they provide is free (for those who use it, which is a surprising number) I'm going to call BS on that. Its $7 per semester and thats no way enough. I'm in the business faculty and we have to run sims online and there is no way $7 is enough considering its 7c/MB and most of the time, nay ALL the time it is on-peak for us. |

There is no free usage other than on these sites - all internet charges must be pre-paid. Fortunately the computer science department provide their own IT services including separate accounts management, course management and everything. IT students get free internet access and 2-up printing on the school's NetBSD systems. |

Hardcore gamers will use their own computer, and compete over the internet. Really I don't see a market these days with cheap computers and cheap broadband access. Thats why he needs a point of difference. Maybe make it like a starbucks with wifi, and cater to the upper class market. With the iphones technologies, mobile internet is going to change. I don't like internet cafes anymore because: * They smell bad/hardly even cleaned * keyboards/mouse are usually grey with crap on them/sticky * computers run like crap because nobody maintains them * chairs/headphones/etc are broken * can't trust the security when using internet * rip off Overall I would prefer to use my 33Mhz 386 + 14k dialup modem for internet in my own home than at one of those places In fact, free internet at the library is probably preferrable for most people who need internet outside of home But if you can overcome the problems listed above, you might stand a chance because I find most internet cafes have most or all of those problems I know of one place in henderson where you can't even play BF1942 on LAN because all the PCs run a different version! |

| 593403 | 2007-09-23 11:16:00 | yeah, if it was an actual cafe, with internet access and spacious computers (and maybe a seperate gaming room) that would be pretty damn attractive | motorbyclist (188) | ||
| 593404 | 2007-09-24 12:56:00 | yeah its real annoying when half the games are running on different versions(one internet cafe had diff version for 1942, vietnam, and the only other 2 real multiplayer games suitable for lan were css 1.0 (1.5?) and warcraft 3. | jackchet (10483) | ||
