Still, they want to increase their market share, then perhaps it should be something they look at.

very true, although everyone I know that has got a mac either aren't gamers or use console's. Still no excuse. I think we all know mac's a crap for gaming

I think you might be surprised to find that Apple is increasing it's market share by about 1% a year through it's own means and not by licensing out the OS or the hardware. The 1% per year increase actually amounts to quite a bit of revenue - which will come out with the 3rd quarter financial report in about 10 days.

Steve has talked recently about Macs and gaming with EA, although I think Apple would have to do a lot on the hardware dept to make the platform appealing to gamers.

592953 2007-09-21 07:41:00 Dang winmacguy, I had sworn for the second time not to rise to the bait but you obviously don't read what others post.

In another thread I posted this where mac computer sales are discussed.

Being very nice and polite, where do you get your figures from?

Thats what they think.
I will post the results of Apple's financial 4th quarter when it comes out in 10 days. Lets just say the company isn't exactly shrinking and nor are its sales of computers and other hardware.;) I mentioned the 3rd quarter in my previous post, it should have been the 4th quarter.
To answer your question kenny, I get my info from articles like this
seekingalpha.com
and a few analyst reports like this

In a research note released to clients Monday, analyst Shaw Wu cited sources who say the company is experiencing "broad strength" across all of its business segments as consumers continue to buy up into higher-priced Mac and iPod offerings.

"As a result, we are raising our forecast to $5.96 billion in revenue and $0.83 in earnings-per-share (from $5.8 billion and $0.73) versus guidance of $5.7 billion and $0.65 and consensus of $5.94 billion and $0.81," he wrote. "We are modeling a gross margin of 32.5 percent (from 30.8 percent) versus guidance of 29.5 percent."

592955 2007-09-21 10:40:00 As a compromise, why not go for Mac's Gold? Purely for testing purposes of course. R2x1 (4628)

Very nice drop that. Depending on the 4th quarter results it might be worth having a few to celebrate. ;) They tend to be well above what the analysts predict.

592957 2007-09-21 12:39:00 um, has anyone considered that your average "vista capable" PC has integrated graphics that any gamer would laugh at - actually i see on trademe "gaming" pcs with graphics that a quick google reveals won't even run fear on minimum settings

so while the average pc is ****loads cheaper than the mac, they aren't exactly shining beacons of graphical goodness either (but you'd think the mac would cost less than it does)

and of course that article was just weird...

592958 2007-09-21 15:38:00 Quite a while ago people thought the World was Flat. This may have included 97% of people at some time.

I also own a IBM compatible PC. This as I know mostly how to look after my computer. It works for me.

Now if anyone can prove to me that I can be more productive by changing Hardware or O/S or Applications then put the case forward.
The most intelligent post in this whole thread.

Considering that
A: The average gamer doesn't buy a Mac for gaming, and,
B: Apple is in the mid to upper end of the market for computers and doing very well for itself. They have never had any intention of "competing" with the cheap end of the PC market where the competition is very tight and profit margins are slim to non existant.

I would say the whole article was a pointless waist of time that told us nothing that we didn't already know.

Actually the artcile also says Apple is concentrating on stuff like the iphone. And with all the new bits and pieces Apple has done with Macs, still market share of the computers remains low.

Hardly a waste of time.
After all its the only competition PCs as such have..............
