2007-10-21 00:27:00 | The 'scientists' saying 'nothing to worry about' or 'not enough information to compute' are in the money streams of the big corporations. Utter rubbish. Sounds like a ridiculous conspiracy theory there ;):groan:

2007-10-21 00:28:00 | it's hardly hysteria, and that article was well reasoned and made perfect sense . similarly the whole global warming debate is based on scientific observations, as such, from viewing all the information i've seen so far i draw my own conclusion that we are infact altering the earths climate beyond it's natural cycle . all you skeptics simply seem to listen only to what you want to hear, and i suspect because that is what is easier for you - the old "change is bad" mentality . still, the fact is that we're going to be forced off fossil fuels soon enough anyway, and it's not really going to be the end of the world until missles start flying - which could happen at any time for any reasonI am old enough to recall 'carless days' back in the seventies - there was talk way back then that we only had about thirty years worth of oil left . Funny, I still (in 2007) fill my car with hydrocarbon-based product . . . . There are always going to be people "pushing barrows" that suit their own agenda - either way, and for any subject - and the latest fashion is to go EXTREME to try to get people to listen . I blame the Media in general - they are responsible for having dumbed down the news . Many people have now got used to getting their 'facts' in 30 second sound (or video) bites (sp?) and not a lot of real thinking is done any more . A grain of salt should be taken with every case, in spite of the alleged 'scientific' evidence (for or against) . There was a time when the current scientific thinking declared that the earth was flat (with a notable exception) - turned out they were wrong .

2007-10-21 00:57:00 | and then the nobel peace prize?! how he deserves the PEACE prize for a bloody "documentary" full of made up statistics and false information about the environment is beyond me. seriously, while he did raise awareness in the states, i think his methods did more harm than good. lucky for him he's reaping the financial rewards....

2007-10-21 01:07:00 | I am old enough to recall 'carless days' back in the seventies - there was talk way back then that we only had about thirty years worth of oil left. Funny, I still (in 2007) fill my car with hydrocarbon-based product.... the biggest problem is that the opec nations keep the actual size of their known reserves as national secrets. they can technically claim they have as much oil as is reasonable, and their "quota" of how much they extract is proportional to their reserves. so a country needing cash can say they have heaps, or they can all say they have little and push the price up and mess with our economies (as we are seeing now) while petrol still costs 2c per litre in countries like qatar (sp?) - ironically their water is priced similarly to our petrol:p so really, it is anyone's guess how much oil is left and how long it will last, but i suspect in 50 years time we should all have moved off hydrocarbons for health reasons anyway. needless to say biofuels are the worst idea i've ever heard of, putting food before fuel:groan: www.imagef1.net.nz

Now the trees will be able to use the extra daylight to convert (via Photosynthesis) much more Carbon to Oxygen . But we really must be careful not to suffer from Oxygen Poisoning (Hyperoxia) . Just remember, six molecules of water plus six molecules of carbon dioxide produce one molecule of sugar plus six molecules of oxygen . We therefore must remember the importance of extra water in this equation . There is also a real danger here as Oxygen is very corrosive and we may all end up with rusty lungs . It really is a quandary all this Oxygen . The sugar too . We really must give consideration to all the Diabetics . I hope Al can see his way clear to take up on my shattering revelations . |
