594019 2007-09-22 10:26:00 Except . . . they're owned by Fairfax BM who are only out for a profit :dogeye:Well you would think they would know better .

It looks to me as if their "advertising ideas personnel" need to get in touch with reality .

Invasive advertising is destructive .

594020 2007-09-22 10:53:00 I actually come to this site just to watch that rolldown ad . Clever advertising deserves to be admired . Yeah!! Just rolled over again . Amazing .

Hell, you know what? I reckon that those ads probably help to pay for this site to run, but I could be wrong .

If you dont like it then come here . If you like coming here but dont like the ad . . . . dont hover your mouse over it . If you like coming here and cant help rolling over the mouse - then use a different browser . If you like coming here, cant avoid hovering over the ad, cant be bothered using a different browser then get an adblocker .

If all else fails - live with it . It wont kill you and if it did then it would be doing all of us a favour .

You've missed the point Sam .

You might find the majority don't get the same kick you do watching animations .

no, I think you missed the point. I was being sarcastic, I really don't care either way for the ad but I do think it is clever. The fact is there is no free lunch so if one of the conditions for keeping this site active is to put up with an ad, which is actually very easy to avoid, then so be it. Some may recall the 'floating' ad that used to haunt this site. That idea eventually got dropped. Probably with the noise about this one it to may be dropped. My point is this is a free site. I don't think it is too much to ask to tolerate the ad in lieu of access to this resource. If you think otherwise then so be it. You have expressed your dislike for the ad and you have been given advice how to block it. The choice is yours to vote with your feet or stay and work around the issue. I reckon that a minority of the people here make the majority of the noise. Most of just don't care.

Fairfax listened and dealt with the problem some browsers/OSs had with the ad initially.

Gerrypics, why did you drag out this account to make this thread under rather than your "regular" account?

594025 2007-09-22 21:37:00 And your right, it is like a booby trap! hehe
You go up to scroll the page down and ops... it gets you yet again!

Maybe you need a new mouse/mousepad. I don't think I'm the most steady-handed person around and I hadn't set the ad off while scrolling........now I can't stop trying to........thanks!
So many options given to deal with this already. There really are more important things in life........like the clock!:groan:

594026 2007-09-24 13:10:00 I would like to point out that the only reason I started thread is because it is obvious that this type of advertising is destructive to both Pressf1 and the advertiser . (why else would so many members here look to using adblocks) .

It is invasive advertising .

Invasive advertising turns the customer away .

GerryCareful now. Soon big bad Scott will have to post a note in here ...
blah blah <insert Fairfax propaganda> blah blah ... and then lock the thread down.
Just use the ad blocker/whatever solution, they know about the problem, but because it generates interest [which somehow equates to revenue] it won't ever be removed
