592595 2007-09-29 04:15:00 I forgot about it!

Does anyone know if 'scavenging' is allowed and if the place is still open?

Maybe I should just drive down and see...

592597 2007-09-29 05:56:00 Its only computer and mobile phones and ink toners and stuff .. no furniture, tv or vcr or dvd players etc. They dismantle them for recycling with nz and overseas companies, maybe those are not equipped to handled non computer stuff .. its on eday.org.nz

We dropped a old scsi scanner and cd writer and keyboard.
May drop off our 386 in parts and boxed up 586 next time after we wipe the hdd securely. I may even fire it up and see how is it ... and how well win95 works. :)

so what's the difference between a tv and a monitor?

likewise for a VCR vs a computer - they're all made of the same things, and are processed in the same way

592601 2007-09-29 20:54:00 actually the e-day site has a live scoring bit showing the weight of ewaste collected so far today I reckon with 7 monitors and 6 cases, not to mention printers and keyboards i could be responsible for a big jump on the next update

There was a business took a couple of full van-loads in & got a few stern words because eday wasn't meant for businesses. They caused quite an increase in the weight.

Someone bought in 4 compaq D510s with xp pro stickers on them. It is amazing what some people throw away.

I didn't get a chance to do any real work at eday because they had all the computer techs that volunteered recording the brands of everything that came in.

Dammit I would have loved to get my hands on them, i'm getting seriously sick of software that isn't supported on my trusty old 2K system

Yeah, what the devil were they doing? Everything seemed to be recorded . They even wanted to know if the Monitors were going . Now how would anybody know after they had been thrown unceremoniously in the boot of a car?

Would have cost a small forest in paperwork! :D

Then they wouldn’t take a 14” TV and a couple of VCR’s . :angry

Their thinking is seriously flawed!

Dahhhhhhh, stick the junk in the landfill and save yourself any hassles .

592604 2007-09-30 03:57:00 sounds like it's suffering a serious case of beurocracy, probably due to the guy in charge not actually knowing the first thing about electronic componentry

probably causes it to cost twice as much to run as it should too...
