766739 2009-04-21 02:10:00 I'm still getting headaches over this whole cropping videos saga.

See here (pressf1.pcworld.co.nz).

The conclusion I've come to is I'm more than happy with the capability of VDub, but it has all kinds of problems doing anything with MPEG2 and some MPG files (while is clearly stated on the website, it doesn't support it).It will crop some MPG files but not encode them to XviD, and MPEG2 it wont even touch.

Is there any software that anyone is aware of (am more than happy to pay for it) that will crop MPEG files, and encode them ideally in XviD but anything with decent compression (<25mb/min type of thing).

I will owe much bandwith to anyone with a solution. :p

766740 2009-04-21 02:31:00 There is an older unofficial variant of VirtualDub called VirtualDub-Mpeg2 that supported it. Look around some more reputable sites for it.

766742 2009-04-23 04:56:00 It might be worth checking out AutoGK.
I havent used it worth a while (though I see they released some upgrades early this year). Its basically an interface over virtualdub or virtualdubmod - not sure which. I think from memory its a self contained download/install though if you already have one of those installed. It basically has a nice simple-ish interface and takes away some of those mind bending options from virtualdub and virtualdubmod. I encoded a few movies and "baked" subtitle files into the avi files. It worked well. It certainly supports MPEG2.

766743 2009-04-23 05:20:00 Thanks Rob. havn't even had a chance to try VirtualDub-MPEG2 yet. So 2 things to try now. :) wratterus (105)
766744 2009-04-23 06:04:00 AviDemux (sourceforge.net) should be able to do it as well

766745 2009-04-23 06:06:00 Awesome. If none of these programs work I think i'll take it as a sign I shouldn't crop my videos. wratterus (105)
766746 2009-04-27 06:32:00 I think virtualdubMOD deals with mpeg2 just fine?

What about WINFF? it uses ffmpeg so if you can figure out the crop command line text to add itl do exactly as you say.

766747 2009-04-27 10:10:00 Pretty much all of the above suggestions have worked. You're all legends :p wratterus (105)
