Trains dont move more people. Rip up the tracks & replace with roads & you'll see just how many more can jam into that space taken by the tracks. Remember what happened when Wellington lost the Hutt Valley Line for a while a few years ago because of a storm? Total traffic chaos. A six car train can carry up to 1,000 people - at the average occupancy rate of 1.2 per car, that many cars would be an entire parking building. We cant keep pretending that NZ buses & trains arnt ridiculously expensive to setup, run & maintain. A black hold of a money pit. Rail consistency tops the reports and studies when it comes to value for money. Example include the City Rail Link and third (and fourth) main projects, both of which blew road projects out of the water in terms of value for money. The reports are easily accessible online. Time to put car enthusiasts out to pasture :) |
